Naples, 8 May 2024 – Continued seismic swarm which is worrying Naples this morning another tremor woke up the inhabitants of the Phlegraean Fields. At 7.29 todaya shock of magnitude 2.6 was registered byNational Institute of Volcanology.
Residents warned her and took to the streets. No damage to buildings or people was reported. A milder shock, of magnitude 1.7had been detected by seismographs with the same epicenter at 5.47 of the morning. “In the last few months the ground has changed raised 3 centimeters in a month”, we read in the last one bulletin of the Vesuvian Observatory.
Seismic swarm at the Campi Flegrei in Naples
The recovery of the earthquake in the Campi Flegrei is strong, so much so that the experts have to record it highest number of tremors since 2005, almost twenty years ago now. Only in the last week (from April 29th to May 5th) “were they located 155 earthquakes”. But not only. “In the last month there has been an uplift in the rough area deformation of approximately 3 centimetres”, we read in the latest bulletin of the Vesuvian Observatory.
In 2004, they were bound 1,252 seismic events from January to April. The strongest was on April 27, when residents were woken up by a tremor in the middle of the night magnitude 3.9.
Yesterday was also a black day on the earthquake front, at 00.11 the seismic swarm began. “It is understandable that this intense swarm could generate worry and anxiety. Many are writing to us for the school closures: remember that these are thesafer places and controlled by our municipal technicians with maximum synergy with the school directors”, explains the mayor of Pozzuoli, Gigi Manzoni.
