“Art and science, a winning combination. Soon a meeting at the Cambellotti museum with the students of the Freezzotti-Corradini institute and the Grassi high school to illustrate, using the works on display, the innovative projects they have created as part of the First Lego League competition”.

This is what was declared by the mayor of Latina Matilde Celentano who today, together with councilor Giuseppe Coriddi, received in the council room of the Municipality the children of the two schools, which came second and sixth at the national level in the robotics and science championship. A success that will take the “Steam Power” team of the Frezzotti-Corradini institute to the world championships, with the Smart Shield project.

The children arrived in the Municipality this morning accompanied by the school directors Roberta Venditti and Vincenzo Lifranchi and the teachers Marco Torella and Valentina Isone from Frezzotti-Corradini and Gianmarco Proietti and Francesca Cirilli from the Grassi high school.

During the meeting, Mayor Celentano, after having viewed the various equipment including robots, liquid crystal screens and “special” glasses and listened to the explanations on their functioning by the students, complimented them on their performance: “I am very proud of you – said the first citizen – You are our future, the future ruling class of this city. Continue to study and cultivate a passion for robotics and the technology necessary to meet the challenges of an ever-evolving world.”

The Smart Shield project, explained the guys from the “Steam Power” team, leaving for Norway where the world championship will be discussed, has a double objective: to protect works of art from vandalism and to encourage their communication. The innovative device is characterized by a liquid crystal screen capable of completely obscuring the work in the event of attacks by malicious people, so as to eliminate any emulative effects. The same tool can be used to add information on its artistic characteristics to the work of art with images of writings that do not alter in any way the piece being viewed by the public.

“The nuts” of the Grassi high school instead made Mayor Celentano wear the glasses of the VIP project, to be visible and talk. An “inclusive” accessory, because it allows people with deafness to receive, in the case of guided visits inside a museum, pre-recorded information in Lis language. Particular lenses, in fact, will allow the double vision of the work of art and the explanation with sign language.

After the usual photos, Mayor Celentano greeted the two groups of students with an invitation to the Cambellotti museum to “try out” the two prototypes, wishing the “Steam Power” team to shine in Norway too.
