Elections, Alternative for Common Goods launches the “Prato pedala!” initiative to map the cycle connections from the neighborhoods towards the centre

“The deaths that occur among cyclists on Tuscan roads every year are unacceptable. In Prato the cycle paths are often poor, absent or fragmented, with routes interrupted by architectural barriers, culminating in pavements, roundabouts or turns without safe access. For this reason in the next few weeks I intend to travel around the city mapping the shortcomings of the cycle paths and putting the creation of radial cycle paths for the neighborhoods towards the city center at the center of political participation, starting with the construction of a cycle path in via Roma, which connects the hamlets of Prato south of the historic centre, allowing you to safely reach the Liberation and Peace Park, which still incredibly lacks similar connections”. The proposal comes from Tommaso Chiti, candidate for municipal councilor on the Alternative for Common Goods list. “Yet in the last fifteen years the Cenni and Biffoni councils have poured too much cement, while approving obsolete infrastructures for motor traffic, as in the case of the A11. On the contrary, it is necessary to decongest the road system without having to consume more land, thus improving daily liveability, reducing polluting emissions in an already very flooded plain – continues Chiti -. There are jobs that do not allow you to free yourself from the use of your own vehicle for travel, but many categories of workers and residents can also be encouraged towards sustainable mobility with mileage or monthly contributions, which can possibly be spent on the purchase of public transport passes , like the train, thus enhancing intermodality”. This is why Chiti launches the “Prato pedala!” initiative: “The proposal is not science fiction and several European and Italian cities are already promoting similar projects for the adoption of measures aimed at improving air quality, with the incentive to cycle -mobility, tangible through a dedicated application, connected to a kit also useful for anti-shoplifting purposes”.
