The new edition of Carpi Foto Fest returns from 11 to 26 May in Carpi, at the Sala dei Cervi of Palazzo dei Pio, which this year chooses as its theme the combination “Totem & Tabù”, declined in contemporary society, therefore aiming to investigate the dualism between possibilities and prohibitions, sense of belonging and idea of transgression.

There are numerous appointments at Carpi Foto Fest – Focus Giovani, an event promoted by the BFI-APS Grandangolo Photographic Group, with the patronage of the Municipality of Carpi, the Emilia-Romagna Region, the Province of Modena, FIAF (Italian Federation of Photographic Associations – FIAF Young – FIAF Talent Scout – Online Portfolio Laboratory) and the contribution of the CR Carpi Foundation, which also takes place this year in the splendid setting of the Sala dei Cervi of the Palazzo dei Pio.

“This year – he explains Danilo Baraldi, President of Gruppo Fotografico Grandangolo – we decided to choose a theme and a dualism that would allow us to investigate the society in which we are immersed, creating a moment of reflection on the importance and strength of creativity and imagination. The contemporary world, whose mechanisms we deal with on a daily basis, is crossed by phenomena of conditioning and orientation that determine the choices and behaviors of individuals. Marketing and advertising constantly construct real consumption rituals, defining fashions and models which, in turn, induce individuals to conform to the behavior of the masses. The human being tries to alleviate this incessant friction by taking as a reference one or more models to follow, which can be distinctive signs or objects, in relation to each other. Without the construction of social, cultural, political and artistic totems, the concept of Taboo would not exist, which limits and forces but at the same time continually creates barriers to be broken down in order to start building again.”

The event will kick off on Saturday 11 May at 10 am, in the Sala dei Cervi of Palazzo dei Pio, with a greeting from the authorities, followed, at 11 am, by the emotional and engaging experience of the Face-to-Face reading of the works on display in the exhibition which, for a total of around 200 photographs, will be open to visitors until 26 May, every Thursday from 10.30 to 12.30, on Saturdays and Sundays from 10.30 to 12.30 and from 4.30pm to 6pm.

Among the projects exhibited, in addition to the winners of the Portfolio Readings of the 2023 edition and the finalists of the 2023 edition selected at the FIAF Young 2023 Talent Scout, there will also be the winners of the readings of the 2023 edition of the festival, as well as young emerging talents from from Umbria, Emilia-Romagna and Marche.
