Faenza, Fabio Gramellini of the Oriani institute awarded in Grottammare

Fabio Gramellini from Forlì, head teacher of the Oriani institute in Faenza, was awarded an Honorable Mention for the historical novel “L’oro delle legioni” (2023, Nolica Edizioni) as part of the 15th National Literary Award “Città di Grottammare”, organized by the Pelasgo968 Association.
The winners of the various sections of the literary competition, in which around 1000 authors from all over Italy took part, were announced on April 15th; among the 375 novels in the competition, of which 42 in particular for the Historical Novel section, Fabio Gramellini’s work was deemed worthy of an Honorable Mention by the jury, thus replicating the recognition that the author had already obtained during the twelfth edition of the Prize in 2021 with his previous novel “The Third Aquila – The Price of Honor” (2020, Capire Edizioni), the ideal start of “The Gold of the Legions”.
The awards day took place on May 4th and saw the presence of the writer Dacia Maraini, who was also awarded Honorary Citizenship by the city of Grottammare.
“The Gold of the Legions” is a novel that catapults the reader onto the Rhenish limes, in a tangle of events involving Romans and Germans between adventures and twists, also leaving room for reflections on the relationship between life and death, between punishment and forgiveness, between the duty of the soldier and the ethics of the individual who shuns violence and who finds himself in the ancient dilemma of having to “do the wrong or suffer it”.
Fabio Gramellini, graduated in Law from the University of Bologna, is a school director and passionate about military history. Already author of the essay: History of the Italian-Turkish War 1911-1912 (CartaCanta Editore), now in its fourth edition; in 2020 he published the aforementioned The Third Eagle – The Price of Honor with Capire Edizioni, a prequel to his latest novel also set in the 1st century BC at the time of the dramatic battle of Teutoburg, reconstructed based on the writings of Tacitus, Velleius Paterculus and other great Latin historians, but also on the most recent archaeological evidence.
