FIFTH STAGE IN UMBRIA FOR THE PERUGINA CUP CELEBRATING THE CENTENARY! – ASI

The fifth round of ASI Circuito Tricolore coincides with the centenary of the Coppa Perugina, a commemorative event organized by the Perugino Vintage Car and Motorcycle Club which keeps alive the memory of a legendary race held from 1924 to 1927. Born from an idea by Giovanni Buitoni – at the time a young scion of the family that owned the La Perugina confectionery company, famous for the production of chocolate – the Coppa Perugina was the first speed car race held in the greenest region of Italy.

The 35th re-enactment is scheduled from 9 to 12 May and is included in the ASI Circuito Tricolore calendar for the fourth consecutive year due to its historical value, for the large participation of Italian and foreign crews on prestigious historic cars (including those of ’20s and ’30s which represent the spearhead of the re-enactment) and, last but not least, for the tourist-cultural contents capable of highlighting the peculiarities of the territory.

The program of the Coppa Perugina 2024 will start on Thursday 9 May with the presentation of the centenary commemorative stamp with representatives of the Ministry of Business and Made in Italy, Poste Italiane and the State Printing and Mint Institute. Stamp on which the image of the first poster of the 1924 Perugia Cup designed by the artist Federico Seneca, true interpreter of the Futurist Movement, is printed. The participants’ activities will continue with a visit to the exhibition of MaMo Donnari, an artist from Perugia who created the sculpture entitled “Cup Queen” for the centenary of the “Cup”. The first part of the road trip will follow towards Campello sul Clitunno.

On Friday 10 May we will visit the towns of San Gemini, Todi and Deruta. On Saturday 11th the procession of cars will reach Gubbio, where a visit to the city center and musical entertainment is planned in the municipal hall. In the afternoon there will be great excitement in Perugia for the long-awaited catwalk in Corso Vannucci, the presentation of the cars and crews preceded by a selected group of centenary motorbikes to remember that in the 1920s the car race was preceded by those of two wheels . The Coppa Perugina fashion show will also be repeated at night, as always accompanied by the students of the “Bernardino Di Betto” Art High School in period costumes made by themselves.

On the morning of Sunday 12th, the Nestlé Perugina factories will host the participants’ meeting for the last skill tests after completing the lap on the original race route. As in all ASI Circuito Tricolore events, historic cars powered by biofuel will also be present at the “Perugina” for the sustainability projects promoted by the ASI Green Commission.

This year too, the Coppa Perugina joins the ASI project in favor of historical motoring without barriers, “Classic & Accessible”, which sees disabled crews lined up at the start on board these magnificent appropriately modified cars.
