Moore and Ogbeide dominate in the LBA individual rankings and Pistoia enjoys his talents. All the numbers of the red and whites
One of the notions underlying the world is: “the math is not an opinion”. You can quibble about the accents, punctuation or pronunciation of such a word but you certainly can’t question the numbers. Those collected byEstra Pistoia are eye-opening in themselves but if we delve into the individual statistics there is truly a lot to enjoy around Via Fermi.
This morning – Wednesday 8 May – remaining on the subject of figures the Gazzetta dello Sport awarded Pistoia with a full 8 at the end of the championship. The only team to have obtained such a high rating from the squad together with its playoff rival, Brescia. Not a small recognition in view of a post season to be enjoyed with a smile and with the wind at your back.

THE NUMBERS OF THE INDIVIDUALS
Surely within a newly promoted team not everyone expected to see this full of individual quality and numbers like that. However, the Lega Basket has made everyone agree by assigning the red and whites an important portion of the LBA Awards by inserting Payton Willis and Charlie Moore on the list of eligible regular season MVPs, and coach Nicola Brienza among the five coaches vying for the award of best head coach of the regular season.
Among those mentioned, the one who stands out in terms of numbers is Charlie Edward Moore. The Chicago native has literally shuffled the championship cards, proving to be one of the rookies who has had the most impact in this Serie A. The fact that he hasn’t missed a single match ‘penalizes’ him in terms of averages but in the global rankings the figures don’t lie.
Moore and Ogbeide: Patches
Moore in fact it dominates in terms of total points scored (523) and placed himself at third place for average (17.4), also on the podium in the assists ranking with 158 chocolates given to his teammates with an average of 5.3 per lacing of his shoes (5th in Serie A). The Estra point guard also took 4th place for fouls suffered (5.1) and 9th place for average rating with a very respectable 16.5. Right away however, outside the top 10 of three-point shooting percentages despite an excellent 41.7%.
Physical and numerical dominion also for the big man Pistoia Derek Ogbeide. The number 34, after the skepticism at the beginning of the championship, took Pistoia on his shoulders and took it high… very high. The center born in 1997 is first for total rebounds both globally and for average: 8.6 per game for a total of 258. Speech from copy and paste also in defensive carols with 6.1 per game and 182 total. In the offensive half of the pitch it is instead second in rebounds collected (76) and third of average with 2.5.
Ogbeide However, he stood out not only for arriving with his hands higher than anyone but also for the precision with which he handled the ball. The seasonal average under the knife is about a 63.8% by two which places him in third place as far as painting specialists are concerned. The fact of not having dirtied this figure in the slightest from beyond the arc places him at the top first place in the field goal percentage rankings ahead of Miro Bilan who follows with 60%.
TEAM NUMBERS
Beyond the numbers that then built the ranking, there is much more behind this perfect machine driven by coach Brienza. Estra ended the Serie A regular season as least fouling team in the championship with only 17.4 whistles against on average per game. Record also in 3-point shooting percentage (38.5) thanks to those already mentioned Moore And Willis but much of the credit also goes to Hawkins and Varnado (both above 40%).
Encouraging numbers also in the ranking turnovers and defensive rebounds. In the first mentioned Estra is immediately off the podium with a very commendable 4th place thanks to only 12.2 turnovers per game. Great merit of 5th place (26.4 the average) in the carom grid in defense – as seen – goes to Derek Ogbeide. However, the contribution of the usual should not be underestimated Carl Wheatle (139) and Payton Willis (109).
