in Catanzaro 700 in the square due to interns’ dispute

Sit-in of around 700 people in Catanzaro, Tuesday 7 May, in support of the dispute of Calabrian interns: to promote it Nidil Cgil, Felsa Cisl, Uil Temp and Usb Fds. The dispute concerns approximately 4,200 workers employed in local authorities Calabrians but who risk having no prospects for the future.

The unions urge the stabilization of these precarious workers and they ask politicians for a concrete commitment as an amendment to the Thousand Extensions provides for the possibility of a contractual arrangement for 18 months at 18 hours, but refers to a financial allocation of only 5 million euros which is completely insufficient, according to the representative organisations, to faced with a requirement of approximately 70 million euros per year.

The union leaders and a delegation of trainees were received by the prefect of Catanzaro. In the opinion of the unions “contractualisation, therefore, is currently only a theoretical possibility, given the situation of chronic financial deficit in which Calabrian local authorities find themselves, and the real risk is that what was achieved through trade union struggles will remain a dead letter. The funds necessary for the contractualization of this large portion of the Calabrian precarious employment could be found in the months of May and June, when the discussion of the budget adjustment will be started in Parliament”.

Angelo Sposato, CGIL Calabria: “The parliamentarians of our Region deluded and then abandoned the workers”

“Not a word from the Calabrian parliamentarians and the regional council on the dispute of the 4000 trainee workers who took to the streets in Catanzaro, after having deceived and abandoned them – commented the general secretary of the CGIL Calabria, Married Angel –. Take responsibility and act towards the government instead of doing parliamentary tourism. Thanks to the mayors and administrators present alongside the workers. Thanks to Prefect Ricci for his sensitivity.”
