For the first time in Treviso the major data protection experts, from the Guarantor of Privacy and Protection of Personal Data (GDPD) to the Special Unit for the Protection of Privacy and Technological Frauds of the Guardia di Finanza up to the Clusit Association for IT Security

Treviso is transformed for one day into the national capital of data protection. The occasion is the Data Protection Forumevent to be held on May 10th at 9:00 am at the Cassamarca Foundation Auditorium and dedicated to entrepreneurs and managers who move from the desire to increase the sensitivity of companies towards the protection of personal data and sensitive assets of companies. Created by PROATTIVA Srl, the Forum received the patronage of: City of Treviso Confcommercio Treviso, Ascom Spa, Confapi Treviso, Treviso-Belluno Dolomiti Chamber of Commerce, Clusit Association, and it is an event accredited by the National Council for Chartered Accountants and Accounting Experts of Treviso.

THE CONTEXT – In 2023 i serious cyber attacks they grew up in Italy more than in the rest of the world: +65% compared to 2022 (+12% worldwide) for a total of 2,779 serious accidents. In the same year, 11% of global attacks were successful in our country (7.6% in 2022), demonstrating how Italy is increasingly on the radar of cyber criminals.

I am attacks on sectors have increased significantly of transport and logistics (+41%), of manufacturing (+25%) and retail (26%), mainly due to the growing diffusion of IoT and the trend towards the interconnection of systems, widely used in these sectors and yet often not sufficiently protected (data source: Clusit).

74% of data attack actions are on SMEs (source: National Security Agency): despite this, the 72% of companies in Italy do not offer training courses on cyber risks and countermeasureswith a consequent lack of protection procedures and investments in suitable tools to reduce IT risks in companies.

THE WHY OF THE FORUM

Valentino Pavan, creator of the Data Protection Forum and administrator of the Treviso-based PROATTIVA which works daily alongside businesses and organisations, wanted to organize a national event on data protection in his Treviso “admittedly without technicalities”, capable of speaking to entrepreneurs in their language and responding to their needs.

Thus the mayor of Treviso: “We welcome the Data Protection Forum with great interest, an event that first of all aims to inform about all aspects of data protection and the possible consequences, including economic ones, of the violation of corporate technological systems. In a world that is now based on information dynamics, it is important to know the factors that concern this area, making them understandable to everyone. I thank Valentino Pavan for choosing our city for the “pilot” edition of this forum: Treviso thus becomes a national laboratory for data protection”.

It wasn’t easy starting from scratch to build this event – underlines Pavan – but we are thrilled with the response we have obtained and I thank the Municipality of Treviso and all the bodies that have granted us patronage for the support shown to the Forum. From our observatory we see how one of the problems relating to the management of data protection is cultural, linked to the lack of technological know-how and internal infrastructures, which are decisive factors in blocking attacks on sensitive data, increasingly used thanks also to Artificial Intelligence systems . In addition to lack of awareness, we find distrust towards topics which, being too technical, often discourage companies from entering into connection with the field of data protection. An area which, however, has become strategic for the correct functioning of the company. A company that suffers a ransomware or cyber attack is blocked in all its processes for weeks, with losses in turnover and reputational damage that often cause haemorrhages of customers. To convey in the best possible way and without technicalities how important it is to inform yourself and protect yourself adequately, in addition to the experts’ point of view, we strongly wanted to include in the program the testimony of a company that found itself in this situation”.

THE PROGRAM

The Forum will begin at 9:00 am at the Cassamarca Foundation Auditorium (“Appiani Auditorium”) in Piazza delle Ittici. After the institutional greetings, there will be a speech by Dr. Agostino Ghiglia, Member of the Personal Data Protection Guarantor (GDPD) which will be followed by the intervention of Special Unit for Privacy Protection and Technological Fraud of the Financial Police. Then it will be time you can discover the most recent data from the Clusit Observatory, thanks to the intervention of the engineer. Giorgio Sbaraglia. It will then follow direct testimony of a company that suffered an attack on its data and who will share his experience with the public. The morning will close with a round table discussion with the trade associations that sponsor the event to identify “lessons” useful for increasing awareness of data protection.
