Acqualatina has begun replacing water meters in Nettuno. The intervention will affect all users, therefore all homes and businesses.
The new meters are defined as “intelligent” because they are able to support some specific functions such as automatic remote reading of consumption and monitoring of any losses.
The water manager Acqualatina has been carrying out this campaign to replace and modernize meters for some time. 100,000 installations are planned throughout the Ato4 territory. PNRR funds were also used to finance the operation.
The new meters, called “smart meters”, have already been installed in other Pontine municipalities in recent months such as Lenola, Sezze, Formia and Aprilia. In Aprilia the installation was completed just recently.
Now it’s the turn of users from Nettuno and some areas of Latina.
How the installation takes place
Installation is free for the user. The operation requires a short time during which the flow of water is interrupted.
Users who are registered with the Acqualatina SMS service will be notified on the day the operation will be carried out. The others will be able to be informed by posters placed in the affected areas.
Users can also check the identity of the person coming to carry out the replacement, thanks to the identification card with photograph and serial number. But for further checks they can call Acqualatina directly at 800.085.850.
As regards the meters that are located outside the home, the presence of the user is not required, who however has the right to preside over the installation. If the meter is inside the home, however, the user is obliged to grant access to the technician sent by Acqualatina.
The advantages of Nettuno’s “smart” meters
The term “smart metering” refers to all those systems that allow remote reading and remote management of water meters, guaranteeing numerous advantages, with a view to environmental and economic sustainability:
- Reduction of reading and contract management costs, which will become possible remotely
- Greater frequency in meter reading, with billing always certain and secure
- Network monitoring and maintenance optimization in case of losses
- Precise knowledge by the user of consumption and waste, thanks to real-time measurement of consumption and related analysis
Thanks to smart meters like those that will be installed in Nettuno, citizens will be able to keep consumption under control and avoid losses and waste.
Furthermore, as a direct effect of these technologies, an improvement in consumption habits and an increase in water saving has been found, a point that is more essential than ever for the protection of natural resources.
