Bodycam for nurses and ambulance doctors in Lombardy

Doctors and nurses of 118 Lombardo will be equipped with the bodycam, small portable video cameras, wearable on a voluntary basis, like those already in use in the police force. This was established by the Lombardy Region which, in order to guarantee the protection of the safety of its rescue professionals, intends to invest in the safety of the employees of the various companies of the regional healthcare system through a widespread investment in technology so as to support and defend them from the risk of aggression.

Lombardy: 850 bodycams for health emergency workers by the summer

Doctors and nurses of the Lombardy 118 will be equipped with bodycams on a voluntary basis.


The results of experimentation already conducted elsewhere in fact, they highlight that these devices, by allowing the recording of what is happening in front of the operator who wears them, represent a deterrent against the aggressiveness of the users, guarantee the extra-hospital working environment as well as reduce the indirect costs of episodes of violence.

Once worn, the bodycam it always remains on but is activated by the worker to record audio and video in the event of threats, aggression or violent behaviour.

Recognizing that safety in the healthcare sector is essential to preserve the well-being of professionals and patients, Lombardy also therefore adheres to the experimental project already adopted by the Salerno Local Health Authorityin Campania, last February, as a response for the safe management of critical situations for the prevention of potential accidents.

This initiative goes in the direction of ensuring maximum safety for our healthcare workers, especially those on the front linesdeclared Guido Bertolaso, regional councilor for Welfare, recalling how Lombardy is absolutely at the forefront in the timeliness and coordination of relief efforts. It also wants to be so in terms of safety, implementing a project of this type, among the first Regions in Italyhe underlined.

The project, which was financed with an allocation of 1.5 million euros, involves the purchase of 850 devices that will be distributed throughout the region by the summer. They will be installed not only on the uniforms of the health workers, but also on the advanced emergency vehicles and on the medical vehicleson thehelicopter rescue and on the ambulances of third sector bodies in agreement for 118 which carry out basic rescue.

The first bodycams were distributed on May 2nd to healthcare workers, already trained on their use, serving on emergency vehicles in Monza, Bergamo and Brianza. The AREU, the Regional Emergency Emergency Agency, is waiting to sign the trade union agreements regarding remote checks by the ASST/IRCCS and Third Sector Bodies.

The regional councilor for Security and Civil Protection, Romano La Russa, also expressed great satisfaction with the project, according to which the hospital must be a safe and protected place of care for both patients and healthcare workers: Security must be a priority for all citizens and in particular for healthcare workers who in recent years have increasingly been victims of attacks.
