The waste collection service which should be guaranteed at the ecological islands of the capital has not yet fully resumed. Problems in accepting waste at the plants in via Talamonti and via Cappuccini have been occurring since Friday. The ones paying the price are the many citizens who went to the islands with their special, bulky and electronic waste. At the gates of the collection centers, users were turned away and had to take home bags and objects to dispose of.

The service was denied due to failure to empty the bins where the collected waste is stored. On Friday, Saturday and Monday the bulky waste bin was full (emptied yesterday morning) but yesterday it was still not possible to deliver mattresses, pruning clippings and metal materials due to the failure to transfer the separated waste to the collection centres. A problem that has understandably infuriated users. Controversies were also sent to the city councilors to ask for explanations for what happened and information on the reactivation of the service in the next few days.

In fact, there are few reassurances that can be received from the Isvec employees working on the islands left without information from the company. Likewise, the councilors who have been searching the offices for two days have remained without news. In the early afternoon yesterday two technicians from Palazzo Castropignano went to the plants to take note of the situation. Since Monday morning, the matter has also been a topic of debate in the council commissions. «Several citizens are contacting us to report problems with the disposal – says the councilor Donato Aspromonte (Fi) – today (yesterday) the problems continued. Instead of valorizing the good will of citizens who make an effort to deliver bulky and special waste to recycling centers, we do not guarantee a service and we are not able to obtain explanations.”

The representative of the minority, in the special budget control commission, also recorded a request for information on the payments made to companies responsible for collecting and taking to storage the waste delivered by citizens to the islands.

«I also tried to contact councilor Mucherino to get some information on the reopening of the islands – he concludes Aspromonte – but without success. I will go to the manager to ask for the immediate reactivation of the services.” The silence of the Ecology councilor (it was impossible to contact her in the last two days) has also left majority councilors such as Giovani Comunale (Pd), who announced an official request for information from the administration, hoping for a return to regulate activities on the islands in a short time.

The mystery of the suspension of contributions should not be linked to economic issues. As communicated by the unions, in fact, the dispute that began a few weeks ago has been concluded positively, with the payment of the back wages. The problem of the suspended collection at the ecological islands is not even linked to the construction site passage scheduled for this month of May. The Salerno company “Igieneurbanevolution” should take over from Isvec. The conditional is a must because the director of the Environment sector Giovanni Natale has not yet prepared the definitive awarding of the tender.

To date, in fact, only the provisional award has been awarded to “Igieneurbanevolution” in mid-March. Furthermore, the manager requested further information on the documentation presented to the winner of the contract. The risk of an appeal to the TAR by companies excluded from the contracting commission also looms over the passage of the construction site and could wait for the final award to formalize their disputes. In the meantime, the total resumption of collection at the ecological islands is left to the possibility of emptying the overflowing bins.
