VENICE – Radiata from the “practice of the legal profession”. The Veneto District Disciplinary Council imposed the most serious disciplinary sanction on Gigliola Valenti Stocconow 81, for decades lawyer with studio in Venice. A decision taken in January, following a report received directly from the Court which in December had sentenced the lawyer to 3 years and 6 months in prison for having appropriated over 81 thousand euros from the current accounts of an elderly woman of whom she was support administrator. Faced with this condemnation, the Regional Council immediately decided to radiation, against which the lawyer could have appealed to the National Council. But this did not happen. Thus, once the deadline had passed, the provision became definitive. And the task of implementing it fell to the Venice Bar Association which, the other day, informed all its colleagues. For Valenti Stocco it was not the first disciplinary proceeding. There had been others, but they had not yet been defined. Now the radiation definitively closes the matter.

The sentence of 3 years and 6 months last December referred to events that occurred between 2019 and 2021, a period in which the lawyer had acted as support administrator for an elderly Venetian woman. It was the woman’s family who noticed the shortfalls in the accounts. Already in 2009 Valenti Stocco had had to compensate three Venetians with 250 thousand euros: in that case the lawyer had not paid the mortgage installments, on behalf of the clients, whose house had thus ended up at auction. Just under a month ago, another trial, in which Valenti Stocco was accused of embezzling a sum of 150 thousand euros, ended with the statute of limitations. The former client’s complaint dates back to 2017, but for events that began fifteen years earlier. On that occasion the plaintiff’s lawyer, Marco Franco, had revealed the existence of another complaint relating to another elderly woman for whom Valenti Stocco had been a support administrator between 2004 and 2021. In this case the reported shortfalls would even reach two million. The investigations are ongoing. (r. br.)
