Campania Region calls meeting for the future of Fos di Battipaglia: 300 jobs at stake

There Campania regiona, in response to requests from unions and workers, called a meeting to discuss the future of Prysmian’s Battipaglia Fos plant. The meeting, scheduled for May 10th in Naples, will focus on the social plan for avoid the loss of approximately 300 jobs and the definitive closure of the production site of optical fibers.

The current situation

In recent weeks, a potential buyer submitted a non-binding offer to acquire the plant. However, his real intentions are still unclear.

A glimmer of hope

A few days ago, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport (MIT) announced the possibility of selling and relaunching the site, also thanks to the modification of the quality standards of optical fibers to be used on Italian construction sites, obtained from the Communications Regulatory Authority (AGCOM) at the request of Minister Adolfo Urso.

Request for extension for closing

Minister Urso also asked Prysmian to extend the shutdown of the plant to allow negotiations with the potential buyer to be conducted with greater serenity. However, this request appears to have gone unheeded, with the company having already begun plans to secure and shut down the site.
