After the many partial celebrations experienced between Italy and Turkey, yesterday, May 7, the definitive one was finally celebrated with full ranks for the heroes of Trentino Volleyball who brought the Champions League back to the city after thirteen years of waiting. The first celebrations were doubled on Sunday: a few tens of courageous fans in the Antalya sports hall after having enjoyed the feat live, over 1200 at PalaTrento iGlued to the big screen so as not to miss a point of the gialloblù. Monday was the time of the welcome back to the city and they had been around two-hundred to show up mid-afternoon in via Fersina to embrace the champions and the cup.
The party
Yesterday they were all in Piazza Duomo, braving a gray afternoon which threatened heavy rain but was merciful to the several hundred people who wanted to embrace the champions who twelve months ago they brought Trento back to the throne of Italy and now at the top of continental volleyball. At 5pm precisely the dancing begins with the greetings of the institutions: the vice-president of the provincial council Francesca Gerosa, the provincial councilor Roberto Failoni and the mayor-ultras Franco Ianeselli who was in Turkey with the team. «We are here to celebrate not only the European champions but above all real people – the mayor recalled – who practice the art of smiling and kindness every day. We love them twice because they are superheroes but also people like us.”
A thought shared by the crowd that united at least three generations in the name of passion for a sports team that represents a common good. Word then to the club president Bruno Da Re: «Last year we were on this stage to celebrate the promotion to the A1 women’s team which unfortunately didn’t go well this year but we won’t give up on that front either. The Champions League is the most important cup: with this, all of Trento is champion of champions.”
The parade
When the team entered the scene, the fireworks went off and smoke bombs were lit to celebrate coach Fabio Soli and his boys, from first to last. «This victory is precious because it comes from the bottom – recalled the Emilian coach -, from every day’s work. It is the right reward for the effort of a season and in particular of the last few days.” One by one the samples they paraded before the eyes of the fans to the tune of We are the Champions by Queen, from the latest arrival Garcia to captain Podrascanin who struggled to hide his emotion for a party with the scent of farewell. Choirs from the square to the stage and from the stage to the square to share a celebration for everyone.
Today the time will come institutional celebrations with team, technical staff and management who at 12 will be guests of the provincial council at the Sala Depero, in Piazza Dante. Tomorrow the last event will be private, with the family, with a dinner organized by the club for all its members and employees.
