Marco Manfrinati kills his ex’s father. The geologist’s widow: «he was dangerous but free»

«My daughter ran away on July 2, 2022 because he had told her several times that he would kill her. She was terrified and we hid her. We hired her bodyguard and bought her a blonde wig. We made sure to keep her safe, because she was infinitely afraid.” It is a true horror story that of Marta Criscuolo, who for months tried to protect her family from the threats of her son-in-law Marco Manfrinati, arrested in Varese for having disfigured his ex-wife Lavinia and killed her father-in-law Fabio Limido who had intervened to defend it.

In front of the cameras of the “Pomeriggio Cinque” program, the woman retraced, in a crescendo of anguish and terror, all the steps that led to the worst tragedy last Monday. «We were very careful – recalled Criscuolo – because the death threats were continuous, in addition to attempts to enter the house and damage to our gate. I warned that this was dangerous.”

THE THREATS

The man, a 40-year-old former lawyer, was on trial for stalking (the first hearing was set for June 5) against his ex and her mother. «The prosecutor had requested the arrest a year ago, but the judge had not granted it, instead deciding to ban the approach. He didn’t even have an electronic bracelet.” Lavinia’s mother then recounted the chilling scene when she arrived at the scene last Monday immediately after the crime.

THE AMBUSH

Manfrinati showed up by car around 12.40 in via Ciro Menotti, in front of the building where his father, a 71-year-old geologist, had his offices. There he knew that he would meet her ex, a 37-year-old, during the lunch break and waited for her holding a switchblade. As soon as she exited her, her former lawyer lunged at her, hitting her in the face and neck with her blade. When the elderly man intervened to defend her, the man also attacked him with several slashes to her throat and chest. The 71-year-old’s secretary called for help, while in the meantime his wife also arrived on site. «I went towards a group of rescuers because I realized that my husband was there. I saw him and he was already dead. Not far away was the perpetrator of the crime – explained Criscuolo – who insulted me in a contemptuous, disgusting and shameful manner. He said to me: “Have you seen how your husband is?”. When they put him in the police car, he kept laughing, happy with what he had done.” The man died shortly after being taken to the emergency room of the Circolo di Varese hospital due to the deep wounds that had been inflicted on him. “My husband intervened to defend her, as he has done with his family all his life.” Manfrinati will be questioned today by the Varese investigating judge Alessandro Chionna, before whom he could speak and reconstruct the tragedy.

THE CONTEST

According to what emerged from the first investigations, the basis for the stalking and violent behavior was a particularly complicated cause of separation, especially for the custody of the couple’s son. “I found my client less tired than on Monday, but still very tired,” said defender Fabrizio Busignani. «We have to reconstruct a fact. I don’t want to go into detail, but I would point out that my client’s car was damaged and that a golf club not in use by him was seized. And here I stop.” The ex-wife of the arrested man, meanwhile, “should be out of danger”, as her mother said in the TV interview. The 37-year-old is hospitalized in intensive care with several wounds to her neck and a scarred face, and underwent a long operation yesterday. “I can’t see her – explained the woman – because she is in so much pain that she must be constantly anesthetized.”
