Salerno theft problem, the plan: more patrols in the suburbs

And public order was also discussed in yesterday’s meeting in the prefecture, after the technical table convened by the prefect Francesco Esposito, during which the criminal episodes that occurred in the city were analyzed and it was decided to increase coordination, which already existed between the operations rooms of the various police forces. But, above all, the presence of patrols in the eastern and industrial areas will be strengthened also through a fluid model that will quickly allow the movement of the various flag cars, in service in other areas of the territory, in the neighborhoods recently targeted some thieves. All according to a plan that will be modulated in the next few hours and tested starting from this weekend.

Let’s remember that there were five shots. Only two scored, the one allat Banca Sella (exactly) and to a tobacco shop in via Leucosia. Those at a supermarket, the Mediterranea gallery and a shop inside Porta di Mare failed. The group may not be from Salerno and the police are checking whether, in the previous days, there were strange presences in that area (perhaps whose figures were captured by the camera images) who could have gone to carry out an inspection.

Yesterday’s meeting in the Prefecture was basically a technical meeting (in fact for the Municipality of Salerno was present councilor Paola De Roberto) to analyze the project drawn up by the Municipality of Salerno, recipient of funds from the Ministry of the Interior for the strengthening of security measures in the three-year period 2024-2026. A project for which the city administration will obtain 114 thousand euros for each of the three years.

Obviously, an upgrade of the video surveillance system and an upgrade of the municipal police operations room are planned (which could improve relations between the trade union and the municipal administration). Above all, the technology that will be used to guarantee safety is under observation. Special attention will also be paid to youth and school mediation with the activation of safe meeting areas between children with programs to instill in them the culture of legality. A project whose feasibility has been analyzed by technicians and law enforcement and for which the definitive green light will arrive, also in this case in the next few hours.

Several episodes have occurred in the city in recent weeks: from thefts in apartments to shops but, certainly, the most relevant episode was that of the stabbing on the seafront on May 1st among a crowd of people and families walking .

An episode on which the police remain highly attentive both to understand the real motive that could be behind it and to shed light on the world of immigrants and their activities, which are often illicit. The police are working on these aspects without neglecting even the slightest detail. The mayor had been quite cautious in the morning: «It’s not a particularly alarming situation if we look around – he said Vincenzo Napoli – but it is the situation of perceived insecurity that must be treated.”
