After the suggestions of yesterday’s historical procession, which marched through the city center until reaching the churchyard of the Basilica, the feast of St. Nicholas today has its central day. A day in honor of the Patron Saint that began at dawn, with the launch of the diane and the first mass at 5 in the Basilica.
The day of the sea procession
In the morning, the statue of the Saint will be carried in procession from the Basilica to the San Nicola pier (parading along Corso Vittorio Emanuele and Corso Cavour). After the mass celebrated by the bishop, Monsignor Satriano, and the ‘blessing of the sea’, San Nicola will be embarked on the ‘Nuova Chiara’ fishing vessel, raffled this year to transport the statue of the Saint. At 6.30 pm, at the San Nicola pier, the Eucharistic celebration presided over by the parish priest of the Bari cathedral, Monsignor Franco Lanzolla. At 8pm, the statue of San Nicola will return to the mainland to reach Piazza del Ferrarese in procession, where the lights will be switched on.
