AREZZO — The step from friend to stalker was short, a matter of months to go from an acquaintance like many to a persecution like few others: for this reason the police arrested a 54-year-old man flagrantly for stalking, placing him under house arrest.
It was last Saturday when the police officers from the Arezzo police station intervened after a report of a man lurking in his car near a shop. Once on site, the officers identified the subject based on the description provided by the woman who had requested the intervention. Employed in that shop, she had reported him a few days earlier for repeated episodes of harassment and persecution.
The investigations revealed that the two had met a few months before, starting to hang out as friends until the man began to demonstrate a morbid interest in the victim.
Even though she had in fact expressed her desire to end the friendship several times, daily phone calls and messages continued unabated, even with sexual and threatening content. Not only that: the woman had spotted him several times under the house or in the workplace, and on more than one occasion she had found objects in her car as gifts, but not welcome ones.
In the end she had come to fear for his safety and to change her lifestyle habits out of fear of meeting him.
Now he has been arrested.
