Bari: “Seniors to whom?! 2.0”, mini-Olympics

Below is a statement released by the organizers:

The RSA as a place of restart, even in sports. It is from this vision that he returns to Puglia for the second consecutive year Elderly to whom?! 2.0a recreational-sports initiative organized by four healthcare homes for the elderly of the Korian Group in Bari: Villa Marica, San Gabriele, Nuova Fenice and Villa Giovanna. The final event of the project took place on Sunday 5 May at the Palazzetto dello Sport PalaLaforgia: a day of mini-Olympics which saw the guests of each Residence as protagonistswho challenged each other in a real relay race, followed by hand-eye coordination and strength exercises.

“Seniors to whom? 2.0, our sporting challenge, has reached its second edition: a testimony to the great effectiveness and value of physiotherapy in a RSA – they explain the physiotherapist Luisa Del Medico and the psychologist Cristina De Matteis –. The challenge of which our seniors were protagonists is the result of a journey, punctuated by training, moments of meeting and sharing the experience, which contributed to increasing the motivation and psychophysical well-being of our athletes”.

Korian Elderly to whom Bari 10

Korian Elderly to whom Bari 10“Seniors to whom?!” was born from the desire to spread throughout the territory a different image of the elderly person and his abilities, transforming motor limitations into potential and strengths to be rediscovered. An awareness initiative in which the actual race also becomes a metaphor for the spirit that animates every Korian structure, where RSAs are not perceived as arrival points, but as “starting blocks”. An event which therefore has a dual purpose: to re-evaluate the benefits of physiotherapy not only from a motor point of view, but also psychologically, thanks to the improvement of the elderly person’s self-esteem and self-image.

What’s new in the 2024 edition of the project are were the new games that improve coordination and also bring great benefits to the mood, such as the popular “amusement park”, where the guest must hit the greatest number of jars, or the “catapult” game, a team competition in which the athletes must pass a box containing objects without letting it fall, collaborating with each other, and completing the tour of the field. Furthermore, for the first time, the guests were also able to try their hand at basketball. Each activity has been designed by expert teams to positively influence motor coordination, strengthen muscle tone, improve mood and encourage socialization.

The mini-Olympics thus represented a moment of aggregation and light-heartedness for the residents of the RSAs involved, who were able to get involved and challenge each other to score as many points as possible. In fact, each structure selected 5 autonomous and non-autonomous guests, who carried out a relay race on a straight 20 meter course and subsequently challenged each other in a series of coordination exercises. The winner of this year’s competition was RSA Villa Giovannabut satisfaction was shared among all participants.
