“Our ideas for the child-friendly city”

A very well attended evening on Monday evening, at the Sala del ‘600 in Carpi, packed to listen to the three mayoral candidates, Annalisa Arletti, Monica Medici and Riccardo Righi, discuss the themes of the document ‘If children could vote’, the result of a collective work that brings together the reflections of adults, professionals and parents, and of children themselves, on the future they would like for their city, on their dreams and needs. After the presentation of the document, the three candidates expressed themselves on the numerous points and answered questions from the audience present and, at the end, agreed to sign the document. “We are very satisfied at having been able to share the document with such a vast audience – say the promoters Maria Chiara Buzzega and Benedetta Bellocchio, on behalf of the entire group of signatories – and the credit goes to all those who contributed to writing it, including the children. Now we await the concrete results that this may have in their electoral programs and, above all, once they sit in the City Council where, if we really want to keep children at the centre, there will have to be collaboration between all forces”. As the promoters recalled, “the idea of the document was born last summer, when we met with mothers and fathers but also with those who are not parents, and, speaking of children, we came to a conclusion: what is happened during the pandemic must no longer occur. That is, boys and girls must always and in any case be listened to, considered. Pedagogy has come to our aid in this: as Maria Montessori repeated, at the tables where we talk about adult rights. we must also talk about children’s rights.” “We started with some questions: ‘What do the boys and girls of our city ask of us today? And what do we want to offer them?’. The objective was to start a reflection on the city, also in view of the next elections, to also make future administrators aware of it”.
