Taranto: San Cataldo, tonight the procession at sea. It is possible to follow it by motorboat

Below is a press release released by Kyma Mobility:

On the occasion of the celebrations in honor of San Cataldo, Kyma Mobilità offers Taranto residents and tourists the extraordinary opportunity to follow the evocative sea procession of the Patron Saint on board a motor ship which, as tradition dictates, follows in the wake of Nave Cheradi on which there will be the statue of San Cataldo.

«In particular, this year Kyma Mobilità – announced the President, Avv. Daniele D’Ambrosio – will make both its motorships available, the “Clodia” and the “Adria”, to give the possibility to a greater number of passengers to follow comfortably “in the front row” of the seaside procession of San Cataldo: not only to the people of Taranto, but also to the many tourists who will be in the city for the occasion; to this end we have decided to leave the ticket amount unchanged without applying increases, with children under six years old not paying”

The ticket for the excursion on board the Kyma Mobilità motorboats costs €15, free for children under six years of age accompanied by an adult, and can be purchased at the sales office, in via D’Aquino n.21 (099.4526785 ), at Kyma Mobilità retailers authorized for the Idrovie Service (list on the website) and online in the Idrovie Section of the website www.kymamobilita.it and the “Kyma” App.

The departure of the motor vessel will take place at 7.00 pm on Wednesday 8 May, from the Piazzale Democrate pier, where there is ample parking available, boarding will begin at 6.30 pm; during the excursion a guide will illustrate to passengers the Taranto traditions linked to the cult of San Cataldo, fascinating them with curious anecdotes and little-known episodes.

The motor ship will cross the Navigable Canal passing under the Swing Bridge and next to the Aragonese Castle, to then reach the Sant’Eligio Pier where it will wait for the departure of the “Cheradi” ship with the statue of San Cataldo on board; at this point the Kyma Mobilità motor ships will place themselves behind that of the Navy, following it closely in the sea procession.

The picturesque maritime procession will continue along the Lungomare Vittorio Emanuele II of the old city, the so-called “Ringhiera”, until it enters and travels along the navigable canal, a moment in which from the stands of the Aragonese Castle there will be a shower of fireworks while all the boats the sirens are ringing!

It is certainly the most evocative and scenographic moment of the celebrations in honor of San Cataldo which, from aboard the Kyma Mobilità motorboats, passengers will experience in the “front row”!

For the celebrations of the Patron Saint of Taranto, on Wednesday 8 May from 5.00 pm to 12.00 am, vehicular traffic on the swing bridge will be interrupted, however on the occasion of the passage of the Procession at sea an extraordinary opening is also planned: therefore all the Kyma Mobilità bus lines that pass through the Swing Bridge starting from 12.00 will undergo changes to the routes using the Punta Penna Bridge (details on the website www.kymamobilita.it).

Furthermore, on Wednesday 8th, Thursday 9th and Friday 10th May, vehicular traffic will be interrupted on the Lungomare Vittorio Emanuele III where the San Cataldo Fair will be held. Therefore, in consideration of the prohibition on parking on some streets of the Borgo Umbertino falling within zones A – B – C, in order to limit inconvenience for holders of resident permits, as well as for subscribers to city car parks falling within these zones, the During these three days, permit holders for zone A, zone B and zone C residents and season ticket holders for zone A, zone B, zone C and zone A+B will be able to park their car in areas other than those shown on the own permit, as long as they fall within one of the streets included in zones A – B – C.

Finally, we inform you that the presale for tickets to watch the San Cataldo sea procession from on board the two Kyma Mobilità motor ships, the “Clodia” and the “Adria”, recorded a significant “sold out”. We remind all those who have purchased the ticket that the departure of the two motor ships will take place without fail at 7.00 pm on Wednesday 8 May, from the Piazzale Democrate landing stage, where there is ample parking available, while passenger boarding will begin instead at 6.30pm. Since vehicular traffic on the Ponte Girevole has been blocked since 5pm, we recommend using the Punta Penna Bridge to reach Piazzale Democrate.
