Latest details in centre-left to close the listsbut in the meantime – between one spoiler and another, a poster here and there – the candidates. Thus, on the front that supports Michele Laforgia’s candidacy for mayor, the figure of Titti De Simone appears, until a few weeks ago president of the city assembly of the Democratic Party and then resigned after the majority of the same assembly had decided to supporting Vito Leccese and a very tough confrontation with the party leadership. De Simone is running for the city council on the “Bari Bene Comune” list, which includes part of the Democratic Party.

The announcement

«It is only by believing in it firsthand, at the cost of giving everything – De Simone writes on his Facebook profile announcing his candidacy – that that beautiful, fresh and clean energy of change is set in motion. I believe in the common good, I would like it to be the home of many and many, in which to engage. I will certainly give all the commitment, experience and determination of which I am capable.” And he concludes with a promise: “I’ll make a mess.”

The same “Bari Bene Comune” list also includes five candidates from the Convoriamoci per Bari movement, active in the area for about ten years. They are Nunzia Antonino, Patrizia Morisco, Rossana Ruscelli, Carlo Bruni and Saverio Massari. «Bari needs a course correction – it is written in a post by the association – after years in which the progressive and left-wing front sat on its laurels and gave space to clientelism and transformism imported from the worst right». And here are the reasons why you are asked to vote for Laforgia as mayor which range from the desire to “give a real turning point to politics and city administration” to the need to “confirm Bari’s role as an anti-fascist garrison and a barrier to the policies of national division and differentiated autonomy, passing through the solution of problems such as street cleaning or issues such as urban planning choices and cultural policies”. Also supporting Michele Laforgia’s candidacy for mayor are trade union representatives such as Maurizio Lembo, former national secretary of the Flc Cgil (Knowledge Workers Federation), now a member of the Spi (pensioners’ union and member of the Anpi board of Bari, and Antonella Vulcano, Flc Cgil Bari director, contact person for precarious employment problems and gender policies. And again, from civil society, the cardiologist Alfredo Marchese, president of the Gise foundation (Italian Society of Interventional Cardiology) and Angelo Ceglie.

Vito Lecce and his men

On the other front of the centre-left, yesterday the candidate Vito Leccese was at the historical procession for the celebrations in honor of San Nicola, but also in the lists in support of him some names emerge every day. Like those of Diego De Marzo and Silvia Russo Frattasi, who will appear on the Progetto Bari list, both candidates for the city council. And Progetto Bari also begins to make known some municipal candidacies, such as that for Municipality II (Picone, Poggiofranco, Carrassi, Mungivacca, San Pasquale) by Fanelli and Tiziana Claudio. Between one public appearance and another, Leccese is still struggling with the closure of some civic lists that support him. Small nuances which, however, will have to be resolved within 48 hours, both for the Municipality and for the five Municipalities: the countdown has now reached the final stages and the great rush towards the vote on 8 and 9 June begins on Friday.
