Cesena, 8 May 2024 – The light-hearted adventures of three young people from Cesena in Eastern Europe at the turn of the fall of the Wall and the end of communism they are once again at the center of a film. Last Monday in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, filming began on ‘Returning to the east‘, sequel to the award-winning ‘East last minute dictatorship‘, the film born in Cesena inspired by the adventurous journey of three boys in Romania during the fall of the Ceausescu regime.
The film made in 2020 and released in theaters in 2021 was the most watched Italian film in the first two weeks of programming. At the Italian box office it totaled over 120 thousand euros, released in more than 100 theaters overall. It was distributed in numerous countries abroad, also receiving mentions and awards at various film festivals.
The film ‘Tornando a est’ produced by Stradedellestproduczioni srl of Cesena by Maurizio Paganelli and Andrea Riceputi in association with Victoria Cinema of Modena and Davide Pedrazzini sees the return to the set of the three characters from Cesena Pago, Bibi and Rice played by the same actors Matteo Gatta, Jacopo Costantini and Lodo Guenzi (singer of Stato Sociale). The director is once again Antonio Pisu.
The story is set in 1991 and always involves the city of Cesena, from where the three boys will leave for a trip to Bulgaria. After opening in Buglaria, filming is scheduled for June in Cesena, in particular in the city center, at the racecourse and at the Manuzzi stadium. Other exterior shots will be in Saracen Market And San Marino. The images of Cesena and Romagna will therefore once again be the protagonists of a film destined to travel the world.
