A journey through the history of Brescia art with Moretto, Romanino and Savoldo.

From 18 October 2024 to 16 February 2025, the exhibition “The Renaissance in Brescia. Moretto, Romanino, Savoldo. 1512-1552”, promoted by the Brescia Museums Foundation and the Municipality of Brescia. The objective of the exhibition is to restore the complexity and richness of the history of Brescia in the first half of the sixteenth century through a selection of masterpieces of the Brescian Renaissance.

An innovative path that involves various locations

The exhibition is not limited only to the presentation of works of art, but also includes a series of meetings involving curators and other professionals. These events will take place in various locations, including Padernello Castle, Montichiari Musei, Palazzo Te in Mantua and the Gallerie d’Italia in Milan.

Learn more about the reasons for the success of the Brescia school

The meetings will allow us to delve deeper into the reasons that led the three Renaissance masters – Moretto, Romanino and Savoldo – to develop their expressive language in Brescia. It will be possible to identify the ingredients that allowed the Brescian school to stand out in the Italian artistic panorama of the sixteenth century. This dialogue will involve not only pictorial works, but also weapons, goldsmithery and musical instruments.

A journey in stages that involves the community

The approach to the exhibition will start on 10 May in Iseo, with a meeting in the Aula Magna of the Antonietti Institute. Other events will follow in Mantua, Milan and other locations. All meetings are open and free and to participate just send an email or call the CUP – Single Booking Center.

The presentation open to citizens

The journey will end with the presentation open to citizens on the evening of 17 October. It will be an opportunity for all the citizens of Brescia and beyond to admire the works on display up close and immerse themselves in the history of the Brescian Renaissance.
