On Saturday 11th the Memory Walk returns with the Focherini Scuola

As part of the school educational projects regarding the preservation of Memory, the Focherini school is proposing the traditional walk this year, now in its eighth edition. All the pupils together with the teachers, the ATA staff and any parents (about 600 people), will participate on Saturday 11 May in the walk that will lead them from the school headquarters to the nearby Campo di Fossoli, where the ritual celebrations will take place with authorities, songs, reflections and testimonies. The festive event, born spontaneously in 2000, in relation to the proximity of the school to Fossoli and the name of the illustrious Carpi native to whom the institute is named, has always been held every three years, interrupted only with the pandemic, to allow each student to experience it at least once during their school career.

The title chosen for this edition is “Memory sets you free”, borrowed from a quote by Liliana Segre, which fills the intention of the initiative with meaning: a commemorative opportunity to teach in an innovative way, with guests and local authorities , functional to the identity of a school that presents itself externally with visibility and testimony, promoting educational messages to young people, also through the preservation of the memory of local history and the valorization of historical sites in the area.

The initiative, organized by the teacher Margherita Catellani with the support of the teachers and the school director, received the patronage of the Municipality of Carpi, the Fossoli Foundation, support and contributions from the GAIA parents’ association and local companies, together with the collaboration of others local bodies such as the Blue Cross, Ushac, civic assistants, municipal police for the necessary logistical and organizational support and security of the event. The event was opened by the speech of Mayor Bellelli, followed by that of the director of the Fossoli Foundation and the manager of the Carpi Nord Comprehensive. Furthermore, during the morning, the Focherini students will perform on stage, alternating songs, texts and works of various kinds prepared during the year.

This year too, the event promotes the “1 euro for the camp” initiative which involves the collection of a voluntary contribution of 1 euro per pupil. The sum collected will be donated to the Fossoli Foundation and aimed at projects for the enhancement of the historic site. A way to educate citizenship, to contribute to the conservation of symbolic places of the territory. At any time during the morning at the camp it will be possible to visit the renovated barrack, where for the occasion a small exhibition of the artistic production of the third year students will be set up.
