Thursday 9 May the territory of Cascina will be affected by passage of the cycling Giro d’Italia, with the pink caravan that will enter the city from the Lugnano bridge crossing Via Nazario Sauro up to the Eiffel Tower roundabout. Here cyclists will turn left to take the Tosco Romagnola, enter Corso Matteotti (already flagged) and continue straight towards Fornacette. The cyclists will pass through Cascina around 1.30pm, but before that there will be the transit of the group accompanying the Giro. For this reason, changes will be in force to transit and parking in the affected areas and teaching activities will be suspended in two school complexes.
After a discussion with the schools, the mayor ordered the suspension of teaching activities of sections D and F of the “G.” lower secondary school. Pascoli” and the short-term classes of the “G. Galilei” from 1st to 5th A in short time (released to coincide with the passage of the Giro d’Italia.
Regarding road traffic, the municipal police issued an ordinance in force on May 9th from 8am until the end of the race. It will be established on parking ban on both sides, with forced removal, in the following streets: Via N. Sauro from the border with Vicopisano to the roundabout with the intersection of Via Tosco Romagnola, in via Tosco Romagnola in the stretch between the roundabout with via Nazario Sauro and the border of the territory with the Municipality of Calcinaia. Starting from 11am until the passage of the vehicle bearing the mobile “end of cycling race” signwill be established on two-way traffic, with no parking on both sides, across Via Bacci. Also from 11 there will bereversal of the direction of travel in via Battisti (between via N. Sauro and Piazza Felloni), via Nicolta, via Cei (between the intersection with via Nicolta and via Comaschi). It will finally be arranged closure of all intersections relating to via Tosco Romagnola in the section covered by the cycling race.
The Prefecture’s ordinance also reminds us that during the period of suspension of traffic: the transit of any vehicle not following the race is prohibited, in both directions of the stretch affected by the movement of the competitors; all vehicles are prohibited from entering the route affected by the transit of competitors; all vehicles coming from roads or areas that intersect or enter the road affected by the transit of competitors are obliged to stop before engaging it, respecting the manual or light signals of the bodies in charge of supervision or of the organization’s staff; Vehicle drivers and pedestrians are required not to cross the road.
