The journey along the Peninsula of Captain Steel continues with Siena, the superhero whose mission is to inform citizens about the value and sustainability of steel packaging such as jars, boxes, tins, cans, drums, buckets, cans, caps and closures . The tour promoted by Ricrea, the non-profit National Consortium for the Recycling and Recovery of Steel Packaging which is part of the Conai System, will involve adults and children at the La Lizza Gardens until Tuesday 7 May with activities, workshops and fun quizzes .

For its commitment to the separate collection of steel packaging and the results achieved today, the Ricrea Consortium has awarded Siena a special recognition: in fact, in 2023, 113 tonnes of steel packaging were collected in the city, with an increase of +11.9% compared to 2022.

“Our objective is to constantly improve the results achieved in the collection and recycling of steel packaging both at a national and local level: to do this we are convinced that it is essential to continue to teach the importance and value of recycling this permanent material that is 100% and infinitely recycled – highlights Domenico Rinaldini, President of the RICREA Consortium -. This award represents recognition for the important synergistic work that has seen institutions, operators and citizens as protagonists, as well as an incentive to always do better and commit ourselves more and more to this virtuous process”. In addition to the Municipality, Sei Toscana Srl was also awarded, which deals with the management of waste collection throughout the entire territory of the Municipality.

“In addition to carrying out collection services in the area on a daily basis, Sei Toscana is very involved in information and awareness-raising activities towards environmental issues, aimed at children and adults, also supported and supported by recycling consortia, such as Ricrea – says the president of You are Tuscany, Alessandro Fabbrini –. We are truly delighted to participate in this initiative which sees the efforts of the citizens of Siena recognized and rewarded on the path towards the circular economy”. During the event Ricrea also awarded the Sienambiente selection platform, where the steel packaging collected in the city is processed. “The important investment we have made in the Cortine recycling plant will give a strong boost to the recovery of steel both from the separated part and from the undifferentiated waste. This will allow us to significantly increase the quantity of recycled steel in our territory”, commented Tiziano Scarpelli, President of Sienambiente.

Capitan Acciaio and Ricrea will be at the La Lizza Gardens until Tuesday 7 May to help citizens recognize steel packaging and concretely demonstrate that every box or jar can be reborn to a new life.
