The winning path of Apu Old Wild West Udine continues in these playoffs. The Bianconeri also prevailed after an over time in G2 against Juvi Cremona with the result 95-90. Udine therefore has the possibility, by also winning on Saturday 11/05, to definitively close the series. Juventus MVP Jalen Cannon, author of a 20-point performance (8/10 from twos and 5/9 from free throws) topped with 1 assist and 11 rebounds, for an overall rating of 27. Jason Clark is still absent from the Juventus ranks. Apu presents itself on the field with the quintet made up of: Monaldi, Alibegovic, Gaspardo, Ikangi, Cannon.
Less than 20 seconds were enough for the Bianconeri to score the first basket of the match which was scored by Iris Ikangi (3-0). Cannon and Gaspardo also scored, always present under the boards (7-0). Cotton interrupts Udine’s open run, but the Juventus number 10 responds with two consecutive triples to the subsequent baskets by Tortù and Timperi (13-7). Rain of triples in the following minutes, Timperi, Alibegovic and Shahid scored, from inside the perimeter Cannon and Alibegovic himself found the back of the net for Apu’s +7 (20-13). De Laurentiss, new substitute, suffers a foul and is impeccable from the line of charity; the quarter ends with baskets from Virginio and the Juventus number 13 himself (24-16). Vincini inaugurates the second half of the game with a basket from over 6.75m. Wet powder for Udine, the visiting team moves to -4 and forces Coach Vertemati into a one-minute suspension (24-20). Cremona pushes on the accelerator, and in the following actions, 5 minutes from the end of the quarter, they gain their first lead of the match (24-25). Cannon equalizes and scores 1/2 with the game stopped. The visiting team continues to find the back of the net and builds a mini lead of 4 points (27-32). Lorenzo Caroti, tries to take the chestnuts out of the fire with the triple which is worth -2, but Sabatino and Timperi respond with interests in the following actions (33-40). The Juventus number 7 fails to score with a triple at the end, Udine returns to the locker room seven points down.
Cannon’s winning tap-in at the start of the third quarter tries to give morale to the Friulians. Mirza Alibegovic also scored from inside the perimeter, but the Juvi reaction was not long in coming, with baskets from Tortù, Cotton and Vincini (39-47). Ikangi takes advantage of an assist from Da Ros to place the basket at -6. The Bianconeri become dangerous and uncontainable inside the area, in the middle of the period with Da Ros’ basket they regain contact with the Lombard team (46-47). Timperi faces Cremona and scores 5 consecutive points which force Coach Vertemati to time out. Caroti’s triple was overshadowed by baskets from Benetti and Tortù who opened a 10-point lead for the guests (49-62). At the end it is still the Juventus number 7 who brings precious points into Udine’s pocket, reducing the deficit to 9 points (53-62). At the dawn of the last quarter, the bombs of Caroti, Monaldi and Gaspardo set Pala Carnera ablaze (63-64). Cotton scores a triple from beyond the arc which restores the Lombards’ margin, but a wild Gaspardo responds with the same coin, bringing the gap from Cremona back to a miserable point (66-67). It is Caroti again who lights up Pala Carnera, after a basket from Tortù, the triple from the number 7 brings Udine back to parity, before leaving the field to catch his breath, amid deserved applause from the public (69-69). The Friulians’ momentum continues, Monaldi and Cannon score +4 baskets (73-69). Shahid finds the back of the net from beyond the arc, but the returning Caroti responds with a winning penetration less than 2 minutes from the siren (75-72). Cremona regains parity with Cotton’s basket, Cannon is fouled and with 30″ to go he makes both free throws. The same number 6 in the next action intercepts the ball and launches Caroti on the counterattack which is stopped by the Lombards’ systematic foul. One out of two from the charity line and time out called by Coach Bechi with 13″ left to manage the last possession (78-75). Less than 4″ and Tortù brings the Lombards back to a draw, Udine will not be able to respond. We will then go to over time (78-78).
Tortù from two, Caroti and Cannon with the game stopped score the first baskets of the extra time (81-82). Cotton and Cannon make loud voices from below the boards, Tortù and Monaldi from over 6.75m (86-87). Reaction Udine, Ikangi and Gasaprdo bring the Friulians to +4 with less than 2″ to go (91-87). A war begins with systematic fouls that lead both teams to the line. With 14″ to go Monaldi is cold as ice, he makes both shots from the line and keeps the Juventus lead at 4 points. Tortù, always from the line of charity, misses both conclusions, thus giving the victory to Udine. Alibegovic’s basket, again with the game stopped, is the last point of this beautiful and hard-fought match. The final score reads 95-90
