In Sulmona the celebration of 40 years of Special Olympics activity in Italy


SULMONA – Wednesday, May 8, at the Maria Caniglia municipal theater in Sulmona, the celebration of the 40 years of Special Olympics Italy will be an opportunity to highlight, once again, the abilities and talent of people with intellectual disabilities and to thank , with the delivery of an award, who, in recent years, has distinguished himself for having believed in it and for having supported the movement in Abruzzo.

Special Olympics is a Movement that has always fought for a better and fully inclusive world. In Italy, over the last 40 years and for 365 days a year, Special Olympics has chosen unified sport as a privileged tool to promote inclusion that reaches from the gym to every area of ​​daily life.

Today, people with intellectual disabilities and their families are offered various precious opportunities born from the recognition of inalienable rights, which only some time ago were denied to them, such as those to sport, health, education and work.

Even in Sulmona, therefore, all this will be highlighted and from 10.30, in front of the students of the Sulmona institutes, on the stage, there will be athletes, family members, partners, volunteers: all the beating hearts of the Special Olympics Movement .

Moderator of the event will be Ada Di Ianni together with Kevin Di Martino while the students of the Tedeschi primary school in Pratola Peligna and the students of the Capograssi secondary school of Sulmona will perform (two school teams that have joined the Special Olympics program Italy); the students of the Music & dance dance school of Ada Di Ianni. Then, representatives of the institutional world will intervene: the president of the Abruzzo Region Marco Marsilio and the mayor of the Municipality of Sulmona, Gianfranco Di Piero; the president of Carispaq Domenico Taglieri as well as Alessandro Palazzotti national vice president of Special Olympics, Guido Grecchi regional director Special Olympics and the deputy regional director and landlady Loredana La Civita.

The awards ceremony will see regional councilor Silvio Paolucci take to the stage who, in 2018, presented an amendment, and then saw it approved, of regional law n.2 on sports and sports facilities in favor of the Special Olympics; the Carispaq president Domenico Taglieri for showing sensitivity to the Special cause; Antonio Passacantando, precursor of Special Olympics in the school world; the President of the FIP Abruzzo Regional Committee for his closeness to the basketball movement; Kivaniss and Energean to support the activities of Team Abruzzese.

Closing the event will be Davide Settevendemie who will sing the song “Esseri Umani” music from the choreography curated by Manola Amoroso which all the kids from the Special world will perform.
