Montegrosso roundabout will be eliminated for testing after the renovation of via Vecchia Minervino

Access to Borgo Montegrosso, we are working hard towards what is called to be the definitive solution. After yesterday’s hearings in the V Puglia Region Commission (Article on Andria.News24.City), at the request of the regional councilors of the territory, Caracciolo and Di Bari, in the presence of the president of the Bat Province, Leonardo Lodispoto, of the representatives of Asset Puglia, of the head of Cabinet of the Presidency of the Puglia Region, of the mayor of Andria Giovanna Bruno and of representatives of the Roads and Public Works departments, this morning the summit moved to the Prefecture in Barletta, where the company carrying out the works, the high representatives of the police forces and representatives of the village (including residents and economic-productive activities).

The mayor of Andria, present at both meetings, reiterated the need to safeguard access to Montegrosso in any way, with solutions compatible with the testing needs of the work by the province, the state of the places and the legislation in force in matter of roads. The municipal proposal to classify the road as a secondary extra-urban road by the Province has taken hold, while the Region has guaranteed the provision of 11 million euros which, added to the 2 million already made available by the Province, will constitute the useful endowment to work on the project for further definitive modernization of SP 2. In the meantime, the Province has made itself available to make Via Vecchia Minervino safe, to make it easier when the current construction site roundabout is removed for testing.

This intervention on Via Vecchia Minervino, however, as reiterated by the mayor, cannot be considered a solution to the problem of access to the village as that is a road of limited dimensions (4 metres) which would not allow the easy movement of heavy vehicles, circulars or ambulances. Hence the need to reduce as much as possible the time required to identify a more appropriate solution, again on SP2, something on which the Province is concretely working.

«I am confident – said the mayor – The limits of the work that has been carried out are known to everyone and all those involved are doing their part to give definitive serenity to the village of Montegrosso. For this reason I once again thank the Prefect Riflesso, the President and the manager of the province, the Region and its councilors who have taken action and I would like to thank the representatives of the Borgo who, in their legitimate concern, have always proven patient and available to collaborate on dignified solutions for all. Their trust in the institutions cannot be disappointed at all. Closing access to the village means mortifying the economy, vitality and productivity of an area with enormous potential. In a few days we will have the detailed timetable from the Province, which will be heard again in the fifth regional commission on May 13th. From that we will understand, and I have no reason to doubt, what will be the solution that the Province is focusing on in these hours, which will safeguard access to the Borgo, as has always been loudly requested. In the meantime, obtaining the classification of that road as proposed by the Municipality is already a result that will allow us to work quickly on a standard intersection or roundabout.”

At the meeting in the Prefecture it was clarified that the current roundabout will be removed only after the works on Via Vecchia Minervino, subject to official communication from the Province, after knowledge of the timetable of provincial interventions.
