Ferrara, 7 May 2024 – It will be the 1B class “Chemistry, Materials and Biotechnologies” of the IIS
Copernico – Carpeggiani, Thursday 9 May at 8.30 pm, to pick up the wand and
stand on the podium of the Teatro Comunale of Ferrara to conduct a real orchestra. Give her
music by Beethoven to the soundtracks of Ennio Morricone through Handel, Elton
John and David Bowie, Ferrara gets on the podium aims to let children experiment and
kids the thrill and charm of becoming orchestra conductors for an evening. The project of
musical pedagogy was born in 2021 thanks to Moni Ovadia, general director of the theatre, and al
conductor Alessandro Nidi. The initiative has the city of as its chosen location
Ferrara, also in memory of Claudio Abbado. The orchestra directed by the boys is from
Frescobaldi Conservatory of Ferrara, as well as the solo singers, Alessandra Franchina
and Silvia Fiume.
Alessandro Nidi claims that teaching conducting to children, teenagers, adults,
elderly people, without them having to have musical knowledge or ability, it is a job that
it starts solely from the emotions that music gives us. Initiate them to culture or allow
a personalized in-depth study can be fascinating by offering them this
new listening point: listening to the conductor. The conducting, the
more complex and coveted profession, in reality only at first glance has the possibility of
be carried out without any type of technique, which is impossible for any other study
instrumental. In this project, what matters is the deepening of listening, the desire to
put your body and soul into play, learning simple geometries that will allow you to
any orchestra to be able to perform a piece. Power, responsibility, office
aggressive, the tenderness, the meeting with the orchestra, the final emotion of being in front of
professionals waiting for rhythms, colors and choices from you. Not just a musical rehearsal,
but above all a chance to grow in the relationship with oneself and culture.
Some classes of Ferrara schools have therefore been involved, from 2021 until today, in
this project whose result, always different, was brought to the stage of
Municipal Theater of Ferrara.
