Siena Jazz increasingly international at the Cheltenham Festival

The international cooperation project “Parabola Ensemble” concluded with great success at the Cheltenham Festival, which involved the students of Siena Jazz alongside colleagues from the Birmingham Conservatory, which hosts the event, and Hamburg.

Three mixed bands, made up of students from the three academies, performed in two concerts: the first at the Eastside Jazz Club in Birmingham and the second on the prestigious stage of the Cheltenham Festival.

Representing Siena Jazz were the singer Giuditta Franco, the double bass player Francesco Bordignon and the guitarist Edoardo Ferri. Franco and Bordignon, both fresh winners of the 2024 Bettinardi Competition, respectively in the categories of best voice and E. Frassi prize for double bass players, stood out for their talent and professionalism. Ferri, guitarist whose talent has already been noticed by Enzo Pietropaoli and Fabrizio Sferra and with whom they formed a trio project “Eddie and the kids”, performed a program of his original compositions and the Hamburg double bass player.

The “Parabola Ensemble” project thus reaches its fourth year of life and represents a great opportunity for students, both on an educational and professional level. It offers them the opportunity to interact with musicians of different origins, to play on important stages and to establish relationships with the European and international scene. This success once again confirms the relevance of the Siena Jazz Academy in the international jazz scene. The Sienese institution, thanks to its constant training and promotion activity, represents a point of reference for young jazz talents.

“We are very satisfied with the result of this edition of Parabola Ensemble” declared the artistic director of Siena Jazz Jacopo Guidi. “The project – continues Guidi – has allowed our students to grow professionally and to compete with musical realities of excellence. We are proud to represent Italy and Italian jazz in the world.”

The Cheltenham Jazz Festival, one of the most important jazz festivals in Europe, enthusiastically hosted the performances of the Siena Jazz students and the audience appreciated their music and their energy, giving them long applause. “Parabola Ensemble is a project that has the full support of our Academy of excellence” stated the artistic director of Siena Jazz, Jacopo Guidi.

“We strongly believe – continues the director – in the training of young musicians within our academic courses and we are proud to support a project that helps them grow and compete on the international scene”. Siena Jazz, which has recently reopened admissions to the new academic for first and second level courses, is now preparing for new important events in Italy and abroad, with the aim of spreading the culture of jazz and promoting the young talents.
