The procession of the Risen Christ in Savona
Savona. Easter time represents the “strongest” liturgical period for the San Domenico Confraternity, also known as “of the Risen Christ”. At the weekend it will close with the solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord. The holy mass celebrated in the oratory of Largo Franco Varaldo by Don Piero Giacosa will be brought forward to Saturday 11 May at 6.30 pm, as it will represent the pre-holiday of the Parish of San Giovanni Battista.
All the city’s brotherhoods are invited to attend and the songs will be led by Francesco Simonassi and Filippo Gaggero on the Concone brothers’ organ from 1757. Therefore the usual festive religious function at 9.15 am will not be held.
On Sunday 12 May at 5.30 pm during the solemn vespers the venerated statue will travel along the “scalandrone”, a term of maritime origin which indicates the track on which the cart that supports the Risen Christ slides, and by the brothers and by means of ropes he will go back to his niche, from where he will watch over the people of Savona until Easter 2025.
