The words of food: from 21 to 24 May four special events for the Puglia Biodiversity Week – Agri-food chains

The VII edition of the Puglia Biodiversity Week organized by the Competitiveness Section of the Agri-food Supply Chains of the Agriculture Department of the Puglia Region and by the Department of Soil, Plant and Food Sciences of the University of Bari ‘Aldo Moro’ will be a useful opportunity to reflect and analyze Food Words. What will be the future of food and who controls the fruits of the earth are just two of the questions that from 21 to 24 May will be at the center of the program of special events, promoted as part of the Puglia Biodiversity Week, in collaboration with the Terra association !.

The first event is scheduled for Tuesday 21 May at 7.30 pm at the Kursaal Santalucia Theater in Bari. The writer Fabio Ciconte will bring the theatrical monologue “What happened to Rosemary? – On the trail of biodiversity“, written together with Carmen Vogani and based on two books “Who owns the fruits of the earth?” (Ed. Laterza, 2022) and “The hypocrisy of abundance” (Ed. Laterza, 2023).

Rosemary – explains the synopsis of the monologue – was the most exported Italian apple in the 19th century. Today it is nowhere to be found. Like 75% of edible plants and fruits disappeared first from the earth and then from the markets. An unprecedented loss of biodiversity, with disastrous effects for the environment.

Participation in the show is free, upon reservation at this link.

The focus on the words of biodiversity will continue from 22 to 24 May, with three free admission events in the Leogrande Hall of the former Post Office building in Piazza Cesare Battisti in Bari starting from 6.30 pm. Food, Aesthetics And Limit are the three words chosen for the Puglia Biodiversity Week, useful for investigating in debates together with sector experts, food and wine critics, journalists and influencers, the interests and connections that push the world of food away from its essence, with the risk of bordering on food waste and failure to respect biodiversity.

The detailed program is available on the attached page.
