During today’s appointment with ‘A Tutta C’ on the frequencies of TMW Radio, the former Taranto coach spoke David Godnigi. These are his words.
The playoffs start tonight, what do you expect from Taranto-Latina and from Taranto’s path in these playoffs?
“There is a similarity with my Taranto who took a seven point penalty, we would have even won the championship that year. I believe that Taranto has gone beyond expectations despite the quality squad, Capuano has rekindled the enthusiasm of a place that had many problems in the years after my farewell. The team plays good football, is well organized and can be one of those loose cannons that can do well in the playoffs like Lecco last year.”
Which of the big names in Group C can go all the way in these playoffs?
“I think Avellino did a great job this year after risking relegation last season. This year he found Juve Stabia who surprised everyone, but Avellino has built an important squad and Mister Pazienza made Avellino have an important championship. Given the quality of the squad, we are talking about a serious candidate to win these playoffs.”
Can Catania be the surprise?
“It’s one of those teams that is always dangerous, they found themselves from the risk of relegation to the playoffs and for this reason it is indecipherable. He did important things and then results that weren’t up to par with a squad that was certainly built to do well. They could be really good playoffs and group C has many possible surprises that can also bother the teams in the other groups.”
Is Vicenza among the favorites of these playoffs?
“In my opinion, yes, he has found the right fit and has an important workforce built by spending a lot. There is a solid ownership with a president who has invested a lot, for me it is a team that can go all the way. Then we talk about clubs that have important ambitions but we must also consider an important factor such as luck in the playoffs.”
Is there a team that intrigues you more than the others?
“With the big teams eliminated, the troublesome teams that can cause trouble are Taranto, Atalanta and Juventus. They are the three teams that have the right characteristics, Atalanta and Juventus have players with superior quality and potential. We play in the heat and technique is preferred, the young players are more serene and have that healthy madness that can lead them to important results. I played in Como in Serie C with Tardelli on the bench, we were young and we won the playoffs against real battleships.”
Among your colleagues, who surprised you the most in this season of C?
“I think that from what I have seen having followed Serie B more there are various ideas, but I really like the idea of Modesto at Atalanta, an idea that I also feel is mine. Mantova has an idea that many are trying to imitate, this De Zerbi school which then needs to be analyzed in various contexts. I always say that when you try to propose something new in an old football like ours it is always welcome. I also liked the metamorphosis of Mimmo Toscano who dominated far and wide. Capuano has a super organized defensive phase and this year he also showed a very proactive offensive phase.”
When will we see her on the bench again?
“This year I took a risk, unfortunately I didn’t go, I took advantage of past experiences and I wasn’t convinced by the proposals received. Sometimes it’s better to take a gap year rather than ruin yourself elsewhere. I’m working with my agent for the future and I hope to be back on track in July.”
