RAPOLANO TERME. “I don’t think cyclists will find terrible sections between Viareggio and Rapolano, rather pleasant ones. Thursday’s will be a great stage and a great opportunity, for fans as well as for this entire area.” Thus Giancarlo Brocci, creator of L’Eroica, regarding the imminent passage of the Giro d’Italia in the Crete Senesi. His speech was one of the interventions that livened up the first evening of the new Girogustando series last night, set up to draw a parallel between cuisine and great cycling. The preview was moved between Viareggio and Rapolano yesterday by chef Nicola Gronchi and the brigade from Romano, a prestigious restaurant in Versilia, which for the occasion performed at the San Giovanni spa. Together with resident chef Claudio Porro they created an unprecedented four-handed menu, served to the public in the suggestive room overlooking the Crete and the thermal pools. Among the creations offered: “Risotto with artichokes and chamomile with pigeon and its stock”, and “Roasted turbot, courgettes, creamy pine nuts and black garlic”. Also present at the evening were the President of the Arezzo Siena Chamber of Commerce, Massimo Guasconi, and that of Confesercenti Siena, Leonardo Nannizzi.

After the “sprint” start yesterday evening, the next stop for the 4-hand menus will be scheduled for Tuesday 21 May in Siena. All the info on www.girogustando.tv
