Early childhood, projects that support families continue

Countering educational poverty of children, from very early childhood, and the birth rate decline. This is the objective of the integrated project for the well-being of children and adults «From zero to a thousand» which affects three Lombard provinces including ours and which sees the Foundation of the Brescia community and the cooperative Flying elephants among the implementing bodies. The resources were made available by «Con i bambini – social enterprise» and by the «Con il Sud» foundation.

Resources and countries

The project has a cost of 900 thousand euros for the three provinces, 336 thousand of which for Brescia, for four territorial areas involving six municipalities: Desenzano, Borgosatollo, Flero, Montirone, Gardone Val Trompia and Palazzolo. “Our foundation – stated the director of Fcb, Orietta Filippini – can encourage positive lobbies in the area, to disseminate good practices and spread them to other entities, working hard on families and childhood”.

For Brescia, the Elefanti Volanti cooperative is responsible for the project 15 services including nurseries and centers from zero to six years and which in this area is following two lines of intervention: «The strengthening of what exists with workshops for parents and children of various types – explained the president, Gisella Pricoco – for almost five thousand hours of activity for 101 children involved and 195 families; and then the innovation of educational methods and the reorganization of spaces.”

Tailor-made services

It is in this sector that the experimentation with Asst del Garda was activated to strengthen the company nursery of the Desenzano hospital, and also for the Gardone Val Trompia hospital, following the model of the «Battibaleno» nursery active in the city for 22 years and which offers almost “tailor-made” services for parents who work following particular shifts in the healthcare and tourism sectors.

«Here the nursery is open from 6.30 in the morning until 10.30 pm – explained Silvia Ziletti, head of the cooperative’s childhood area -, six days a week and 12 months a year, on eight consecutive shifts which allow a personalized response, in order to guarantee the well-being of the child and parents”. Offering a pedagogical method in step with the new lines, to “accompany the little ones in their growth but without rushing”.
