One more episode of violence in the Salerno prisonwhere an inmate tried to set fire to the cell three times.
The episode is reported by the Autonomous Union of Penitentiary Police which states that it is an act “specious, because he wanted to be included in the mental articulation department so (according to him) he would be able to access a community. The same, despite being dangerous for the management of the Institute, because it is disliked by the inmate population and agivo towards all prison operators continues to remain at the Salerno prison”.
Yesterday afternoon the prisoner in question set fire again in the sleeping room with the excuse to go to the infirmary. “When the Penitentiary Police staff opened the cell, the inmate carried out yet another act of violence – says Sappe – he spat, picked up a chair which he threw at an officer causing damage to his wrist. He also threatened the Inspector General of Surveillance to the throat with a piece of ceramic and punched another policeman who had come forward with a strong punch in the back.”
The men of the penitentiary police managed to accompany the prisoner to the infirmary, after many humiliations, harassment and violence. “Once in the infirmary the inmate destroyed a room where special drugs were kept, subsequently managing to obtain possession of psychotropic drugs present in the infirmary and ingested them by resisting the staff – they continue from the union – He was then taken to hospital again.”
The continuous violence suffered has left the Penitentiary Police officers for whom Sappe is the spokesperson to the limit. “The inmate in question has become unmanageable and the Penitentiary Police personnel are tired and unmotivated by the failure to adopt concrete solutions.
