Goodbye to Michele De Nisco: “Intelligent and human, you were our guide”

Sant’Angelo dei Lombardi

Michele De Nisco, affectionately known as Lino, historic director of Irpinia’s healthcare system, passed away in Avellino amidst the affection of his loved ones. De Nisco had a long and brilliant career, at the top and in crucial roles of the local public health system. The funeral will be held this afternoon at 4pm in the church of the Santissima Trinità dei Poveri, where the coffin will arrive from the funeral home set up at the Irpinia Funeral Home in Torrette di Mercogliano. In these hours there are many testimonies of closeness and affection, which are reaching his beloved wife Antonietta Telaro, family members, relatives and friends. Tony Lucido, leader of Unpli Campania and historic friend of De Nisco, also wanted to remember his career and work, a human and professional trait in the Altirpino area, where he worked hard to create a system and structures of public assistance to the population in delicate post-earthquake years of 1980.

“It was with sincere emotion that I learned the news of his passing, in a single moment images of many memories of moments of work and cordiality of a season of our life, of our work, of our commitment, passed through my mind, accompanied by dreams, hopes and concrete testimonies of commitment to the service of the local community, of the people. We were friends, I will miss Lino De Nisco. Lino De Nisco was a brilliant man, of extraordinary intelligence, after high school, he obtained a degree in Law, with top marks – recalls Lucido – Having entered the administration of the Provincial Hospital of Avellino, which later became ARON Moscati, he trained at the Costantino Mazzeo School, quickly becoming his best collaborator intelligence, respect for the law and the need to allow efficiency and effectiveness in healthcare action with respect to urgency and emergency. With Mazzeo and then with Luigi Giordano he was identified as team leader of a working group at the nascent hospital. Criscuoli di Sant’Angelo dei Lombardi, which needed qualified and trained personnel. Immediately after the earthquake, first Costantino Mazzeo and then Franchino Di Maio, the presidents of USLn 2 of Sant’Angelo dei Lombardi wanted him on active duty on site, detached from his headquarters in Avellino. Lino De Nisco, precisely because he was highly prepared, solved technical, administrative and legal problems by proposing firmally perfect deeds and resolutions. I was delegated to have contacts with the Regional Control Committee to align the documents with the procedures and regional directives, finding all the availability and attention in Dr Luca Melchionne. I have always recorded in the Co.Re.Co. offices. and the Department of Health, great respect for the documents and resolutions prepared by Lino De Nisco. He was a teacher and trainer in our School for Nurses, Technicians and Supervisors. Every time I heard him, there was always a strong feeling of affection and closeness to the hospital, to USL number 2, to those of us who trained at his school.

Lino De Nisco, like all intelligent and highly sensitive people, has never lost the objective of those who administer healthcare facilities, the need to know how to combine respect for the law, laws and procedures with the need to give effectiveness to action of care and assistance to users, who always remain people. Many of us young people, serving at the Hospital and Local Health Authority n.2, some of them having their first work experiences, have grasped this message, metabolising the testimony and training, which has accompanied us up to the present day, at every moment and in every action. His memory, his smile and his irony, his intelligence and his humanity will accompany me.” Tony Lucido concludes.
