The poet Oksana Stomina on May 9th in video connection with the Gabbiano cinema in Senigallia.

There is still a lot of quality cinema that opens up visions of the world. And the ‘Mondovisioni’ series was born from the desire to make him see it as much as possible, precious films that take you into places and lives to know, understand and share. As part of this project, Acec of the Marche and the association ‘Together for Ukraine’ opens a glimpse into contemporary Ukraine and the drama it is experiencing with the screening of the film “20 days in Mariupol”, winner of the award Oscar 2024 for best documentary.

On the eve of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, a team of journalists entered the port city overlooking the Black Sea. During the ensuing siege, as bombs fell, residents fled and access to electricity, food and water was cut off, the reporters, the only ones left, struggle to report the atrocities of the war, until surrounded by Russian soldiers they take refuge in a hospital, trapped. Their images, spread by the world media, document death and destruction and will disprove Russian disinformation. Faced with so much pain, the Ukrainian director and journalist Mstyslav Chernov asked himself if filming all this devastation could be useful and it was the citizens of Mariupol themselves who implored him to continue, so that the world could witness what happened and no one could say ‘we didn’t know ‘.

Andriy Podolskyy spoke to us about the association he presides over: “The regional association ‘Together for Ukraine’ was established with the aim of offering and promoting a voluntary service and pursues civic, solidarity and socially useful purposes, providing assistance and offering aid , support for populations during emergencies and natural disasters, collaborating with national and international civil protection bodies. The association also intends to promote and spread Ukrainian culture, its traditions and the true history of Ukraine by organizing cultural events, presentations, concerts and film screenings.”

The film will be screened on May 9th at 9.15 pm at the Gabbiano cinema in Senigallia, on May 13th at 9.00 pm at the Azzurro cinema in Ancona, on May 16th at 9.15 pm at the Masetti in Fano, on 21 and 22 May always at 9.15 pm at the Divina Provvidenza in Porto Potenza Picena and on May 28th at 9.00 pm at the Solaris cinema in Pesaro.

The screening of the Seagull will also be enriched by a live video link with the Ukrainian poet Oksana Stomina. She wrote the book ‘Unsent Letters’, they are those addressed to her husband, manager of the port of Mariupol, enlisted in the army of his country, taken prisoner by the Russians and to this day no one knows of his fate, like that of hundreds of prisoners of war. Stomina was an eyewitness to the events in Mariupol and on this occasion she will offer an extraordinary introduction to the film. Oksana Stomina’s video contribution will then also be screened in other cinemas before the start of the film.
