“Napoli Milionaria” at the Sala Gassman

The horrors of war, the feelings that waver, the cynicism of human beings, poverty, the black market, prostitution, criminals. And then Naples, its downs, the smell of coffee, its atmospheres, its vices and its virtues.

This is all of “Napoli milionaria”, one of Eduardo De Filippo’s masterpieces, which Blue in the face brings to the stage at the Nuovo Sala Gassman on Friday 10th, Saturday 11th (always at 9pm) and Sunday 12th (at 7pm) at 40 since the disappearance of the Neapolitan genius of dramaturgy. A complex work, adapted with love and depth by director Anna Baldoni, who will also be on stage in the role of Donna Adelaide. A re-adaptation that does not take anything away from the meaning and relevance of the comedy, but which, on the contrary, enhances it further through the addition of music, images and other stage ideas. A choral work, which involves 19 actors of all ages, all products of the acting courses of Enrico Maria Falconi’s Blue in the face, which continues to churn out excellent performances and interpretations.

“Napoli milionaria” revolves around the two protagonists, Don Gennaro (played by Sergio Fulvio) and his wife Donna Amalia (played by Rosaria Caruso) and their house, a bass which is the point of reference for the many inhabitants of the area. It is there that delicious coffee is consumed, gossip is made, the problems caused by the war are talked about, arguments are made, friendships and forbidden alliances are born. And it is there that Donna Amalia organizes, together with Errico Settebellezze, a tram driver who poses as a neighborhood guappo, a thriving black market that allows her and her partner to get rich. And when Don Gennaro, after a year of distance due to the war, returns and discovers this unexpected situation, which annoys him quite a bit, reflections arise and intense discussions explode inside and outside the family on the meaning of the conflict, its consequences and its indelible value. of honesty and solidarity. Dialogues and monologues, those written by Eduardo, of an absolute modernity and perfectly assimilable to the tragedies of today. A show not to be missed for its universality and also for the commitment and dedication that Anna Baldoni and all of Blue in the face are putting into preparing it.
