Politicians’ followers increase but social activity decreases

The appointments continue with the “social investigations” from ilSicilia.it. This time we returned to analyze the presence and activity on the main digital platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and X by the councilors and councilors of the Municipality of Palermo.

After about six months since the last one investigation (CLICK HERE) some have occurred changes both in the composition of the municipal council (CLICK HERE), and in the usage trends of social networks. THE followers will they be increased? Who are the most active? Let’s check the latest updates on their profiles together.

WHICH IS THE MOST USED SOCIAL SITE?

Facebook it’s the platform I’m on everyone present the actors of Palermo municipal politics. In fact, between private profiles and official pages, i 50 subjects analyzed have at least one virtual corner representative of their person. However, it should be emphasized that while everyone they have opened your own profilemodulating in different myou hate the settings on the visibility of public information, it appears to be there instead some defects on the front of the pages.

Currently they do not have a page: Antonino Abbate, Maurizio Carta, Salvatore Di Maggio, Dario Falzone, Salvatore Imperiale, Teresa Leto, Caterina Meli, Francesco Miceli, Rosalia Pennino and Aristide Tamajo. Paradoxically, however, the absence of an official page creates a mix in the content of some posts. In fact, among the contents published by some political exponents, one can find both posts by family and political-work sphere.

If all the representatives of Palermo are present on Facebook, in a more or less incisive way, it’s worse on Instagram. The social network acquired by Zuckerberg in 2012 sees 44 out of 50 exponents. They are absent respectively three councilors and three councillors. The first group includes Dario Falzone, Salvatore Orlando and Aristide Tamajo, while the second group includes Salvatore Di Maggio, Alberto Mangano and Giuseppe Miceli.

Curious why the six absent are all “over 40”. The platform originally created for sharing photos, videos and other multimedia content, had in fact been developed with the aim of involving the very young generations. However, Instagram has also opened up to higher age groups in recent years, becoming a communication channel fully accessible to all.

Situation clearly worse Instead it’s about the new X. The old Twitter, in fact, does not see a large participation of Palermo politics. Fourteen representatives are absent from the platform, while the use made of it by the remaining 36 is not the best. Few interactions and even fewer “twitters”. A difficult situation to understand, since this very social network should be used by institutional officials and, in general, by all public figures to share ideas, opinions and retweet news in real time.

A FOCUS ON FACEBOOK

A particular fact emerges from comparison between the number of followers of public pages and that of private profiles. In 17 cases, in fact, the number of sequals of personal profiles exceeds that of pages.

This situation could be explained on two fronts. On the one hand, in fact, about half of the political representatives have agreater activity in terms of content posted on the personal profile. This trend encourages users to click “follow” on this virtual corner to stay updated on political activity. On the other hand, however, some pages they might have been created recently and they need a long-term analysis to see if they can “take off” from the followers’ point of view.

However, they have increased compared to the last analysis pages That in April they didn’t publish a single piece of content. They are well twelve those still connected to Brigida Alaimo, Leonardo Canto, Tiziana D’Alessandro, Fabio Giambrone, Alberto Mangano, Carmelo Miceli, Giuseppe Milazzo, Salvatore Orlando, Leopoldo Piampiano, Natale Puma, Giulio Tantillo and Pasquale Terrani. However, the situation is better in the profiles, where they are only five those who have not had any activity in the past month: Salvatore Ugo Forello, Carmelo Miceli, Salvatore Orlando, Francesco Paolo Scarpinato and Giulio Tantillo.

WHO IS BETTER? WHO IS WORSE?

It continues to dominate in terms of followers (35,247) Fabrizio Ferrandelliwhich is reconfirmed as the record holder municipal between the pages Facebook. Just behind him we find the mayor Roberto Lagalla with 32,404 followers. Close behind the first two, albeit with a certain gap, Carmelo Miceli (14.862) and Ugo Forello (13.509). Net improvement for Giovanna Rappa which in the previous update had just 61 followers, occupying the last place in the ranking, while now it is aiming for four figures. There are currently 826 followers on the page and 1086 on his profile.

Tiziana D’Alessandro’s page has not yet taken off which remains stuck at 85 followers and without any posts published in April. But his situation is better profilewhere users are well 1178. Similar situation also for Pasquale Terraniwhose digital presences fail to break through: Facebook page stops in September 2023 and just 83 followers. Very more active on the profile insteadwhere he uploaded 21 contents in a month, but that is still not enough to increase the number of followers.

Among the councilors, the page is doing better Salvatore Orlando with 4,512 followersfollowed closely by Alessandro Anello (3,762) and Giuliano Forzinetti (3,385). On personal profiles, however, no member of the council manages to overcome the wall of 1500 followers, but they are many reaching the threshold of 5,000 friends. Among them Brigida Alaimo, Pietro Alongi, Pietro Cannella, Giuliano Forzinetti and Salvatore Orlando.

Overall, on Facebook the There are 31 pages that are not very active, with less than 15 contents published, increasing by eight units compared to the last analysis. From the point of view of profileshowever, are just one unit less (30) the poorly updated virtual corners. In the last update there were fifteen. The overall increase in followers therefore does not correspond to a proportional increase in shared content.

AND ON INSTAGRAM?

On Instagram stays firmly in first place is Viviana Raja, with her 15,800 followers. At a distance, follows the mayor of Palermo, Roberto Lagalla (8,036). A handful of followers instead include: Fabrizio Ferrandelli (5,837), Maurizio Carta (5,787) and Antonio Rini (5,321). On this platform in April it is Alessandro Anello to have published the highest number of posts (24). With the same number of contents distributed, in the previous analysis it was Natale Puma who prevailed over everyone. The number of his posts has dropped dramatically now, standing at just ten.

AN OVERALL ASSESSMENT

A occurred improvement compared to the previous “social investigation” regarding the number of followers. In fact, almost everyone has increased their followers on both Facebook and Instagram. But the same cannot be said for shared content, which in this analysis were far lower than in the past. In many cases these did not even reach the minimum detection threshold set at fifteen contents.

Will this trend continue for a long time? How long will poor sharing on social media still be able to increase followers? Will we perhaps see a reversal of direction in the next update? Stay connected to find out.

METHODOLOGY
