The thirty points gained in thirty-four matches played, the result of seven victories, nine draws and eighteen defeats, are too small a haul for a team which, with the exception of the last two seasons, has always played in the highest areas of the Group H table, arriving three times in the playoffs. But the glories of the recent past have slowly given way to a decidedly less rosy present. Last summer, in fact, the management of the black-green club had announced to the fans that they were working to set up a roster that aimed at salvation. No prestigious objective, therefore, but just a lot of work to do to try to reconfirm himself in Serie D.
A goal which, however, was not reached by the men first led by Valeriano Losetothen by the tandem Santoruvo-Modesto, and finally again by the former Fidelis trainer Andria and Gravina. A season to forget for Bitonto, forced to play all the home matches of the year away from the “Città degli Ulivi”, temporarily unavailable due to the works that are affecting the facility. Palazzo and his teammates, in fact, played the first part of the season at the Antonucci in Bitetto, only to then move to the “Rossiello” sports center, which also hosted the lioncelli’s home matches last year. A problem, the one linked to the sports structure, which probably could have created some difficulties among the black and greens, but which certainly cannot be considered the only cause of a now evident sporting defeat.
The Bitonto Calcio management has not yet officially commented on the news relegation, which became official last Sunday on the sidelines of the derby lost at Casarano. In the coming weeks, however, we expect further developments and – perhaps – even to know what the outcome will be future of the city’s main football team.
