Bologna Airport, Enac on too much noise: “Let’s study solutions”

Bologna, 7 May 2024 – “We will find a solution”. Alessio Quarantageneral manager of Enacgo back to Marconi noise after the minister Pichetto Fratin he remembered how it was the institution’s task to find a balance between development and the environment.

“Noise is a problem that affects all airports, especially those which, like Bologna, are located very close to homes – Quaranta points out –. It is a problem that must be managed, on the one hand, case by case, and on the other through common rules. There is work being carried out in Bologna airport noise commission, open to all interested parties, not just airport operators. I hope results arrive as soon as possible.”

Last week, the council asked Enac to carry out a check on traffic levels and environmental impacts, to understand whether they were in line with forecasts of the 2023 Masterplan. “I am convinced that the works being done at the airport, and which will continue throughout the summer, will facilitate the identification of a solution that can guarantee the citizens’ rights to health and a life that is not particularly noisy, with those who are development needs of airports – continues Quaranta –. This applies to Bologna and applies to all other Italian cities.”

Considerations which, however, do not satisfy the Democratic Party. First of all, since yesterday, the main tourist resorts of Romagna, from Cesenatico to Riccione up to Cattolica, are connected to Marconi thanks to a new shuttle service and the collaboration between Shuttle Italy Airport, Autoservizi Casadei and the Taxi Cattolica Group. News that does not reassure Giulia Bernagozzi, dem city councilor (“I wonder if Rimini’s traffic will be moved to Bologna, among other things with a road service and further pollution”), but above all she is the new person responsible for Infrastructure dem, Claudio Mazzanti, points the finger: “From the Enac data it emerges how the areas of least disturbance are used by only 4% of flights. If Enac is competent, as Pichetto Fratin says, then the minister must intervene to enforce what he says. He once again bluffs.”

Enrico Postacchini, president of Marconi, recalls how “the comparison with Enac is constant”: “The Municipality wrote to the Ministry of the Environment out of sensitivity, but when it exceeds even just two days a year (the limits on noise, ed) the legislation requires action to be taken accordingly – explains Postacchini –. The minister is right: it is Enac that decides“. Citizens, meanwhile, continue to report unlivable days due to the continuous passage of planes.
