Falcone and Borsellino Park, alert on delays in interventions

The restyling work on the Falcone e Borsellini park is one of the most awaited interventions by citizens, which includes internal paths, new trees, a fence and furnishings worthy of a symbolic place in the heart of the city. Interventions awaited for years, started with a grand inauguration of the construction site on December 18th with a ribbon cutting and the laying of the first stone.

Stone which, however, remained the only one. Because the works have gone very slowly due to delays and the recent replacement of the executing consortium member and today there is a risk of exceeding the rigid time limits set by the timetable set out by the Ministry as part of the financing granted by the Pnrr. A situation that had been reported several times in recent months both by the citizens, who could not use the park even though work was constantly stopped, and by the opposition, and which has now also put the municipal administration on edge.

In recent weeks, the Municipality had insistently requested a new timetable for the works also in light of the latest takeover of the Corsorzio. With a resolution dated April 15th of the Maintenance and Common Goods service signed by the Ayuso manager, it was noted that the consortium member would be replaced and «that the internal organizational change will not lead to increases in the deadline for carrying out the works – as stated in the document – which this Determination will be transmitted to the Consortium, which is immediately obliged to continue the work in compliance with the new organizational structure and that any delays will be assessed by the SA and the consequences will be attributed to the Conscoop Consortium”.

But evidently these delays exist and they risk costing the administration a lot because at least 30% of the planned works must be covered by the month of September. Works which include in the redevelopment project a new skating rink, a fitness area, a video surveillance system, wi-fi, new benches and furniture for relaxation, kiosks and services. A total redevelopment, awaited for years. The 400 natural and consecutive days for the works foreseen by the timetable started on January 8 and the councilor for public works Massimiliano Carnevale explained on several occasions that the Municipality can do little until the first deadline set by the table expires of the works following which a reminder or formal notice can be issued.
