Another piece has been added to the already close bond between Imola and Ayrton Senna. After the celebrations of the 30th anniversary of his death the city has sealed a pact of friendship with Siculiana, a town in the province of Agrigento from where the ancestors of the future three-time world champion left at the beginning of the 20th century for Brazil.
The pact between the two cities was signed by the mayors Marco Panieri and Giuseppe Zscopio, who placed the signature under the festively lit dome of the Sanctuary of the Black Christ of the Sicilian village. The link between Ayrton and Siculiana is demonstrated by the documents found thanks to the intuition of Mayor Zscopio. The stories of the discovery and the family were told by journalists Giacinto Pipitone and Anna Restivo, while the project of the multimedia museum in augmented reality was presented by architects Francesco Ferla and Salvatore Nigrelli.
Panieri thus reciprocated the visit made by Zscopio last March to visit the exhibition dedicated to Ayrton at the San Domenico Museum where the foundations for the relationship between the two cities were laid. «On the part of the two communities there is a desire to undertake joint initiatives so that the new generations can get to know and love the man Ayrton Senna – declare Zscopio and Panieri -. An example of life, bearer of the values of friendship, solidarity, family, as well as a champion in sport. The Siculiana Museum represents an important piece to tell his origins and bring him back home in some way. With the signing of the Friendship Pact we have laid the foundations for a concrete collaboration with various initiatives between the two cities.”
