Defence, Grosseto on the field to save the Cemivet horses

An agenda to raise awareness among the Minister of Defense and the military leaders in order to avoid the transfer to Montelibretti of the horse breeding of the Military Veterinary Center of Grosseto, a structure founded in 1870, which plays an essential role for the city both from the of the territory and employment. It was presented by the municipal councilor of the Lega Salvini Premier Gino Tornusciolo, who recalls how the Cemivet has “remained the only center in all of Italy where horses are bred which are used by the Italian Army for institutional purposes, from competitive sporting activities to military representation and the training of academy and military students”. The agenda, also signed by other city councilors, will be discussed in the next council meeting.

“There is no other place in Italy with such characteristics, the uniqueness of the place, the land and the surface available make Cemivet unique in its kind and not replicable in any other territory”, is underlined in the agenda, explaining that , “in terms of space and number of births, it represents the most important equine breeding on a national scale, combining the tradition of the horse with the most modern breeding technologies and methodologies”.

Tornusciolo recalls that for years “a project has been underway to rationalize the equestrian sector which would see the city of Grosseto deprived of such an important breeding farm, all to the detriment of public spending as it would replicate the construction of stables and structures that already exist at the Military Veterinary Center and have always excellently ensured the needs of the Armed Forces, even having the potential to increase the required numbers of foal production”.

Already in the past, it is underlined in the agenda, the Military Veterinary Center “has seen itself deprived of a very important structure such as ‘The school of Farriery’ which from Grosseto was transferred to the Military Equitation Center of Montelibretti, with an expense set aside of the defense of public money to set up from scratch the entire structure which was perfectly operational in Grosseto and which represented the only training body in Italy for courses for farriers also open to civilian personnel”. Now “the project to rationalize the equestrian sector involves moving the entire mare and foal park from Grosseto to Montelibretti which would empty and distort the Military Veterinary Center itself which, thanks to its breeding, guarantees the perfect management of 590 hectares of land, creating a perfect between the Maremma territory and the needs of the Armed Forces”.
