a rediscovered space for future opportunities

The “Liternum Archaeological Park” in Giugliano was inaugurated on the morning of May 5th. An area, once degraded, returned to the citizens

On the morning of Sunday 5 May, the Mayor of the Municipality of Giugliano Nicola Pirozzi, in the presence of the President of the Council of the Campania Region Vincenzo De Luca, inaugurated the “Archaeological Park of Liternum”.

After years of inaccessibility, caused by total neglect and abandonment, which had effectively reduced it to a landfill, this area will soon be usable by everyone again.

From the end of the month, as promised by Mayor Pirozzi, after the development of the surveillance system, it will be possible to access the park.

After the performance of the singer of Russian origin, Julia Burduli, the school groups of cheering children diligently awaited, together with parents, grandparents and teachers, the presentation of the Mayor and the speech of President De Luca. Then all together to discover the rediscovered beauty of a place that, paradoxically, was known by everyone, but never seen by anyone.

In a land sloping down towards the lake, a route approximately 3.5 km long winds through the renovated greenery, which includes both the preserved natural lake vegetation and the added planting of trees, shrubs and plants typical of the Mediterranean regions, the knowledge of which is can learn more thanks to the explanatory panels.

A playground for the little ones at the entrance, a multi-purpose stage for any theatrical and musical performances, a zero-cost training circuit, accessible to everyone, thanks to the installation of fitness stations with instructions for free body exercises.

The “Birdwatching” station, the observation of lake fauna, is flanked by a dock with a descent for canoes and many relaxation areas, for reading, resting or contemplating nature.

The opportunity to touch the stones that have witnessed history and above all the tourist vocation that these places have had since time immemorial is exceptional. Ever since the Roman patrician families, traveling along the Via Domitiana, chose our places as a destination for the “Otium”, that precious time, the right equivalent of work, dedicated to rest, to the enjoyment of the beauty of places and of life.

Until now underestimated, the co-presence between History, Archeology and Nature, which combines the remains of ancient Liternum and the shores of Lake Patria, make it a destination with a very high tourist vocation which, hopefully, will soon materialize in increasingly more incoming flows solid, also through the programming of cultural events, such as book presentations, outdoor exhibitions or concerts.

Despite being located in the territory of the Municipality of Giugliano, this park, positioned near the coastal strip, takes on great importance because it constitutes, in fact, a space that unites the different municipalities present in the area, helping to amplify the sense of belonging to a increasingly multi-ethnic community.

The authorities only have to guarantee continuity of use and, above all, safety, as also requested by the group of protesting citizens who, at the beginning of the inauguration, took advantage of the visibility of the event, to reiterate the need for safety for people and things , on an insufficiently supervised territory; while, to adults (parents, grandparents, teachers), the task of transmitting to the little ones, the sense of civilization, for the conservation and harmony of this recovered space, in order to see in the future, trees and children grow up together .
