Goodbye to yellow stalls and parking meters on the Walls. Parking spaces for residents are growing

From Porta San Lorenzo to the Fara lawn, the metamorphosis took place on Monday 6 May in the morning, with the Atb men who painted the blue stalls yellow, reserving them for residents. The parking meters were also packed in black bags, waiting to be removed. In the next few days, all parking in the blue lines will be reserved for residents, a decision taken by the Municipality of Bergamo with the opening of the Fara car park. The balance for residents is positive, because around 200 are added to the over 500 yellow places they already have available.

Therefore, “rotational” parking will no longer be allowed along Viale delle Mura. By Friday 10 May Atb will modify the parking stalls on the San Michele glacis and continue along the entire avenue, up to the San Giovanni glacis. In the current blue lines there are not only places for residents, but also for motorbikes which continue to have free access to the Upper Town. Mobility councilor Stefano Zenoni takes stock: «Currently residents have over 500 spaces available in the yellow stalls. Along the Walls there are around 200 blue stalls, to which are added around 30 spaces in Piazza Mercato del Fieno: of these, just under 200 will be reserved for residents, because in the remaining approximately 100 spaces will be created for motorbikes and some places for loading and unloading. Eventually residents will have 700 parking spaces.”

A widening of the rules in the granting of permits cannot be ruled out: «Already today – the councilor is keen to say – there are particular situations for which they are granted, I am thinking of elderly people over 70 who do not have a car, whose family members can apply. This is not the time to adjust the regulation, but by having more places available and imagining that they will not always be occupied during the day, the possibility of being able to identify more targeted situations for caregivers opens up.”
